Some mobile cameras are not alerting me with any sound yet are displayed on the map. This is not to do with the direction because these are either bi directional or I am going in the correct direction to get warning and they are still active positions. On passing the unannounced location it will sometimes say "next camera in x miles". I am using the latest database on a Samsung Galaxy running Android 13. There is no problem with fixed cameras of any type..
On checking the settings in STA, if I look in alerts it lists the type of cameras to alert for and they are all ticked but in the mobile category there are two entries, Mobile speed cameras and Risk of mobile cameras. The first has (0) and the second (10713) in the listing, is this correct? Could this be reason for the random alerting or is there some other setting to alter?
Any help appreciated as I am not confident of getting mobile alerts, especially in places that I do not know.
Richard

The 'risk of' is the one to look at.

I don't run the mobile cameras because there are places where I got 4 or so back to back warnings in my old area and considering there was no van or yellow coat for 99.9% of the time it was an unnecessary distraction.

Can you find one that isn't alerting so we can check it's parameters

The usual issue is that you have a long distance set.
The default seems to be 3/4 of a mile. Unless it's a straight road and you are facing the camera 3/4 of a mile away it's not going to alert.

pMobiles type 5 are alerting with sound/speech in two cases:
- your speed is higher than the limit;
- someone liked it very recently (few hours ago).

otherwise the app only displays banner with no sound.

Interesting

So if you are some distance away and no verbal warning is given due to your speed, and, your phone isn't in peripheral view, down on centre console maybe, then you may speed up unaware.

Garmin CSV files do that on their PND's via the POILoader program and I was asked to override it in the Converter so you always got an approach warning regardless of speed.

Then , if you're still speeding, or speed up, you get an overspend warning when closer.

just checked STA code, more exactly:

- speed is higher than [limit]+[tolerance]-5mph

"5mph" is adjustable in alerts settings.

so, the sound alert will be earlier.

This looks like the reason for the missing alerts, I was doing about 60 approaching a 70 camera which is on a dual carriageway downhill and with a bend. I have changed the mobile alert and will check this spot again in a few days. The only thing missing now is how do I get the overspeed warning to work as it is greyed out?
Thanks for the help

Greyed out point doesn't mean disabled. You'll get warning for greyed type 5 with the default app settings.

Carriageway with a bend and camera round the corner is some different story. You may miss warning or get it too late with any point of any type.

Thought so

We've had that before where a member was entering a road after his set trigger point then wondering why he wasn't getting an alert.

All to do with the 'cone' angle

One of the reasons I use 14 secs for my initial alert and 6 secs for any overspeed warning.

Garmin's default, IMO, of 36 secs is crazy for fixed cameras

I haven't had a chance to check the camera I mentioned yet but will hopefully get that way soon.

I have now been past the camera in question again and it is now warning as it should.
The only problem now is why have I got an American accent on the warnings now?
I am not aware of changing anything in the settings but may have done so without realising. This has only just happened, could it be the result of a new download of cameras?
Many thanks

In the STA settings you can select the voice model

First though, check what TTS text to speech you have setup on your phone

I have checked the voice settings and they were on GB and the TTS is Google, so not sure what changed it to an American voice. I'll give it another run and see if it was just a temporary glitch.

Probably, you have en-US phone language set by default. This is not a problem - download Google TTS voice pack for en-GB and then select explicitly desired voice in the app settings: Settings / Audio settings / Speech synthesis / Voice ( 3 dots at the left)
