|
|
I recently added a new Open Street map to my SD card - no problem. The 3598 indicated that the card was fairly full so I deleted an older map - still no problem. I then decided to prune some of the remaining five maps (as you do), but the names listed by the 3598 as being installed maps were different from the names shown by Windows! So, I selected a candidate map and moved it from the 'Map' folder to an existing folder I called 'Sandbox'. At the same time I updated some Themes that I had previously created, installed and used (to change the names displayed on the 3598 themes list, e.g. from the rather long 'UK xx option 11 pastel' and therefore not fully displayed, to a more succinct 'UK xx v11 pastel'). Removed the 3598 from the computer and tried to start it - problem. The 3598 no longer loads; it stalls at the copyright page. I did remove the SD card and reboot (holding the start button for ~7 seconds, but still locked out. At present I am continuously rebooting just in case. The 3598 does not respond if connected to a computer so I can't undo my alterations. Any help gratefully received - otherwise the 3598 is bin-fodder.
* UPDATE * Perseverance paid off. The unit finally connected to the computer, and I re-relocated the map. I did not touch the themes. I haven't dare turn the unit off, only standby. _________________ Dabri.

Glad it's sorted
When I bought any new Garmin I always switched it out of protected mode, so I could backup everything.
In protected mode you can't see the maps in Windows.
I did test an old Garmin once by wiping and reloading and it worked OK. _________________ DashCam:

Thank you for the thought (of exiting protected mode). I shall forthwith use the ancient 'if it ain't broke' wisdom - far now, at least. _________________ Dabri.
