Full download is 10.34Gb (according to GE) whereas 2023.20 was 10.53Gb
Key differences between 2023.10 files and 2023.20 for those with full European coverage. Note file numbers usually increment in '10s' so '220' should have rolled over to '230' but instead shows '250'.

I've just updated my 2597 for the first time for a year. It won't take the whole map on the unit and previously I had Europe S on the device and a chunk of Europe N on the SD card. When updating it simply updated Europe S and left Europe N unchanged. I used "Change Maps" and it is now showing in My Maps Europe S 2024, Europe N 2014 and the previous chunk of Europe N 2023. The devive memory is almost full and probably doesn't have enough working space. How do I sort this so that Europe S is on device, Europe N on Card and the chunk of 2023 is deleted? |

That is one of the problems with older devices.
I just install UK & Ireland on my 2599.
Can't help with specific data locations _________________ DashCam:

How did you originally get just a chunk of the North map on the card? Express wouldn't do that so won't update correctly now. Your best bet is to remove the maps from the sd card so that only the South map is left on your device, then do a reinstall. You could also try running JaVaWa's Device Manager program which will allow you to see what maps are where and help you remove them

Thanks for the advice. It's so long since I last updated that I have forgotten how I did it last year but I remember that it was difficult. But I think that I recall that at that time GE gave the option to install maps on either the device or onto the SDcard. I didn't spot that on the latest version that GE updated to. Given the format of the title of the 'chunk' I suspect that I might have used Mapinstall and highlighted the bits of Northern Europe that I wanted. Don't know yet whether Mapinstall will run on Windows 11.
Edited later: I think that I have now recalled at least some of the rationale behind last year's map update. I think that what happened was that I ran into the same issue of the Nuvi itself getting choked with Europe N and having insufficient working space for long routes so I used BaseCamp to highlight and install Europe North less Scandinavia onto the Nuvi itself while putting all of Europe S onto the SD card. Sorry for the earlier confusion.
I still need to figure out how to get rid of Europe N from the Nuvi itself so that I can install its required subset. I could use JaVaWa to delete it but can I assume that the world map will stop the Nuvi being bricked by that.
Alternatively, if i try to install the required subset onto the Nuvi using BaseCamp will that remove Europe N or simply tell me that there isn't enough space?
Would appreciate your thoughts - I'm getting rusty in old age and don't want to brick my trusty Nuvi! |

I despair! I rang Garmin supply today and guess I spoke to someone with far less nous than me. The advice given was to make sure I installed a 32Gb card. Their support spges specifically say that large files on a card will slows the device significantly! I suggested that perhaps a suitable solution might be to update Europe N on the device to UK maps. No, you need a 32Gb card! He then sent me links to 2 pages on their support pages - which I had already read. After the call I removed the card and updated Europe N to UK. That released about 4Gb of device . memory and I was able to then use Basecamp to add the rest of Northern Europe that j needed - JOB DONE with no bricking risk. |

One thing I did on my 2599 was to remove all the foreign language stuff. That actually freed up quite a bit of space.
I backed up the whole thing first after switching to the mode that shows all the data including maps and system files.
I doubt it frees up enough for the latest downloads but gives more wiggle room. _________________ DashCam:

The issue with doing that is BaseCamp doesn't install all the other files that Express does. A map on the sd card has no effect on the speed the map is read so your best bet is to allow Express to add the necessary maps, if you have installed a card it will put one part of the map on the device and the other on the card. Having done so it will stop any issues with future map updates as Express will just do it all for you. I have numerous older devices to update as well as my most recent DriveSmart 51 and Express works with all of them. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Does using a fast U3 card make much difference to the read speed ? _________________ DashCam:

As I understand it, no. I have a standard 32Gb card and can't spot any noticeable difference. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Are you saying that it is better to have less than 100Mb on the device rather than missing the "other files"? What are those other files anyway.? And if I put a bigger SD card in the device will the automatic Full Europe installation not still fill the device memory first and still not have scratch space for the device to work efficiently. Sadly Garmin don't seem to provide complementary map zones for auto installation that do allow for scratch space. What would happen if I put 1Gb of rubbish files onto the device memory before doing a full Europe map update and then deleted them after the map update? And how much scratch space does s nuvi need to work efficiently? |
