|

I want to use CarPlay so presume I have to use CamerAlert app as if use factory nav then it won't run "over" the top of CarPlay.
So if using CamerAlert then once I subscribe, so a few questions please
Will it run automatically overtime CarPlay starts?
Will it run in background as such, or always need that app open
Can you open the app in CarPlay, or have to on iPhone first
Can the app be updated as it looks so poor interface is hidden etc now for newer phones, hasn't been updated in 5 years
Will it alert for cams when no route is planned, as in nothing routed just driving along
Thanks |

I've added numbers to make it easier to reply
1) No - you would need to manually open the app, it is not 'CarPlay' compatible
2) Can run in the background (although you may need to set certain permissions on the phone to allow background usage - it's years since I've used an iPhone though so I'm not sure on the process
3) Needs to run on the iPhone
5) It is an alert for known speed camera locations (and frequented mobile spots). There is no navigation from within the app itself. It cannot / does not do routing so will always work.

Thanks for that, I’m just looking for best way to get alerts. The app is ancient now and never been updated for years. Is this something to do directly with PGPS, or external contractor, can we not get an update?
Would be nice to update for iPhones in the last 4 years, and also to be made CarPlay compatible so can start it from CarPlay on cars head unit.
There is a shortcut to run an app once connected to CarPlay so it could be ran automatically I suppose.
Do the alerts only come on the iPhone though and not through the cars head unit/CarPlay as if so then it’s pointless to me as my iPhone is in pocket/bag.
Thanks |

Connect the phone to the car's stereo via Bluetooth so the audio comes through the speakers? |

That worked for me.
It comes through as a pseudo phone call. _________________ DashCam:

My phone isn't connected via Bluetooth though as use CarPlay, so can't connect it.
So CamerAlert is purely on an iPhone only? very restrictive nowadays, especially with CarPlay and AA etc.
Looks like I'll have to look for another solution maybe. |

I don't know how your setup works but I'm running Android Auto Google Maps and running Speedtrap Alert, at the same time. But my phone is Android.
Both are running fine from my phone via the car headunit. Plus, my phone is also connected to my Garmin DS61.
I know a few years ago my last phone would only allow one connection but newer phones do allow multiple connections. _________________ DashCam:

Have you managed to get the Speedtrap Alert warnings to appear on the car's display over the Android Auto Google Map? In other words to mirror what you see on the phone when it is running on it's own. |

Not on mine as my headhunt uses propriety software.
That's why I also have my DS61 hardwired and dash mounted as I can see the cameras popup in advance to the verbal warning. _________________ DashCam:
