Download it from their website here. It should recognise your existing serial number. I remember asking this when Sprite jumped from 2.1.4 to 3.x.x and was pleasantly surprised when the response came that all upgrades were free.

You need to uninstall the old version and then install the new one. Use the same name and authorisation code as before to activate the new version. |

Just re-install over the top if it's not showing, but it should show as Sprite Backup. |

WARNING!!!
I tried to upgrade my old 2.1 release to 3.1 the other day on one of my 2210's. Did a backup prior to the upgrade, all went fine with the backup and it completed. I always do this to my CF card.
Installed 3.1 and backup would get as far as "checking registry" then each time it soft reset the PPC.
Not a problem I thought, I'll go back and run one of the EXE's to bring the PPC back to the original state. Ran the previous backup and it restored the PPC. Great! As always a saviour!
Tried running another backup under 2.1 and again it soft reset itself before starting the backup. DRAT!
No problem I thought again! I'll just hard reset the PPC to wipe it clean (just in case something in the registry is screwed up) and then re-run my original restore EXE file. Knowing full well my restore files were on my CF card (as they were there only 10 mins prior) there's no need to check em', right ?
Well it would seem that re-installing 2.1 it started managing the restore files and although I ticked it to say manage them I didn't set how many to keep. So there I was trying to do a restore only to find all my restore files vanished! YIKES! 8O
I had some previous backups on my PC but decided at this point it was time to do a clean wipe of the PPC and build it up from scratch as I've been itching to do it for ages!
So be careful when upgrading. I'm not sure what caused 3.1 to cause the soft resets but even after a restore of the image to prior to installing 3.1 it still started soft resetting.
Also make sure that as soon as you have backed up your PPC that you copy the images off to your PC just in case! :D |

Sprite say you should uninstall and reinstall to go between versions - certainly between 2.x and 3.x - though I recommend it between any version.
As Dave says, if Sprite Backup has disappeared from Add/Remove Programs, reinstall the current version, then uninstall.
3.1.0 finally adds a feature I've been prodding Sprite about for well over a year - encrypted scheduled backups.
Dave - to prevent your kind of scenario, I synchronise my memory card with my PC using MightySync (and, in turn, that backup is backed up both to disk and DDS-4 tape automatically on my PC by Veritas Backup Exec for Windows Servers 9.1).
Using MightySync in this way is only feasible if you synchronise over wireless LAN - other connection methods are just too slow for it to be practical.

MightySync won't work for me, as I have 3.2 gig's worth to backup on each PPC and doing this over an ActiveSync USB cradle connection will take me about 24 hours.
Easiest way for me is to put them in the storage card reader and copy them manually, there's no easy way of auto-syncing them. |
