It does seem that this forum is dying off as there seem to be fewer & fewer posts nowadays whereas other iffy forums are flourishing.
For example in the TomTom PND section there's only been ONE new post since my last 2 posts back in August (well over 2 months ago)
One could say it's because this forum is so current that there's no need to ask any questions but I'm not convinced |

It is very quiet.
I wondered if it's because CA is becoming obsolete.
I still visit daily, but, as you say, nothing to reply to.
I'm also here frequently because I'm going through all the outstanding camera submissions as the Google Streetview cars seem to have been very busy this year so lots of armchair verifying. _________________ DashCam:

Personally I think ANY online forum has less traffic, now-a-days..... |

In my opinion, two things have totally taken the pixels from under us. They are TomTom going the route of not allowing third party POIs in the format we were all accustomed to and CamerAlert going down the pan.
Without those two the bottom has dropped out of Pgpsw forum. Oh, and STA just doesn’t fill the gap, it’s more niche than CA. _________________ Dennis

Hello, I am new to this forum.
Not intended to flatter.
The variety of subjects and the technology is actual and live in so many applications.
Maybe there might be new topics or sub forums created in order to have more questions to reply to.
Like, actually, is done here. Broader for the navigation and satellites. _________________ Number, Letter, Note: Know, Think, Dream. |

Thanks for your spot on comments Dennis. I still use CA on my old Motorola G4 phone which is not used for anything else.

Clearly nobody's even interested in sharing the news that the new v1080 maps and postcodes have now been released.
I rest my case! |

I rest my case! | I’m interested, I’m interested (I still run two TomTom devices - the dumbed down top of the range! (bold for sarcasm) GO Premium and the OEM Renault R-Link. _________________ Dennis

Agree with the comments from Dennis & toyracer69.
Technology has moved on with apps and TT development strategy going down a path that doesn't seem to go anywhere. Most manufacturer built in sat navs have evolved to a level where they are usable, even though still not as good as a TT PND. It's a question of when my GO 1005 decides to chirp its last beep.
Sad to hear of Cameralert's demise also.
The two other forums (?fora) I use for other interests seem to be quieter too.
That said, I do still download the speed camera database regularly and some POI categories periodically. |

..and of course another nail in the PND coffin is the planned closure of 2G networks! They call it "sunsetting" which sounds more gentle, NOT!
All TomTom PND's (and likely most other manufacturers too) that rely on the in-built sim card for their Live Services run on 2G and in many countries the 2G network has already been closed which has annoyed TT customers who expected "Lifetime Traffic" etc from their devices.
Here is what appears to be the latest situation I could find for those either thinking about buying one of their "Live" devices or already own one:-
https://hyphabit.io/2g-network-closure-uk/
Just google "2G network shutdown" for more (global) info
read & weep |

Planned & unplanned obsolescence. Ironic 2G will outlive 3G - from a purely technology perspective that is illogical.
These are the times in which we live - all tech has a limited lifespan these days.
Forums are going the way of usenet - haven’t been there for 20+ years and don’t know if they still exist.
Most of my other forums cover Qs from new members already answered but they can’t be bothered to use a search function.
It’s a take, take, take world these days with most people expecting everything for free. Us “old schoolers” are (and this is a technology term) immigrants to new tech. |
