|
|
I am trying to download onto my MacBook (os 10.13.6 ) the speed camera database. It is for a tomtom 530 go and PocketGPS says OV2 is the one.
I select UK Consolidated and even tried UK Speed zone complete.
The result is it just downloads -Need-Help-htm. 294 KB , which when opened takes me back to the PocketGPS info page
I have paid the subscription and accepted but it will not download me the database
Help/qdvice required please

Hi jmorris,
to the forum!
IIRC TomTom has used the "530" name twice on two separate units.
How do you connect the 530 to your Mac? Do you use:
1. TomTom Home?
2. TomTom MyDrive Connect?
If you have an ancient PND (over 10 years old) then you should be OK
If you have a younger TomTom PND then you will probably have to use TomTom MyDrive Connect which doesn't show any POIs (built-in or custom) on the navigation screen nor had proximity alerts which is useless for Speed Cameras.
Also as a Mac user, you need to unzip the zipped files using a third-party app and not the default one.
You can use the PGPSW data on a smartphone app if you can't use it on your PND. Use either CamerAlert (iPhone or Android) or SpeedTrapAlert (Android).

Hi Robert and thanks for your reply
I'm using 'TomTom Home . My 530 Go is probably over 10yrs old.
The problem is it opens the download page but whatever I ask to download it still sends 'Needs Hep HTM

Hi Jeff,
I use a Mac myself but I've never used it to download .ov2 files for my 950 Live because I was still using Windows at that time.
IIRC, when you connect a PND of 530/950 vintage it should appear as an extra USB connected drive, certainly for Windows if not for Mac.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused here. Are you using TomTom Home to try and open the download page?
If you are, then don't connect the TomTom 530 to your Mac until you've downloaded and unzipped the files.
On the download page, as you're using a Mac you'll get the following message:
We have detected that you are a Mac user:
When you download using Safari you will get a 'Decompression Failed' error message. This is because Safari tries to extract the file using OS X's built-in Archive Utility which is a bit rubbish.
We recommend you install and use 'Unarchiver' or 'Stuffit Expander' as these will both open the zip files successfully. If you get stuck then please ask in our forums!
Download the following:
SatNav System: TomTom OV2
Include pMobile Files: Optional (tick or untick)
Camera Selections: UK Speed Zoned Complete (I presume that you're in the UK)
Available Voice Packs: Optional
Download the zip file to a (preferably new) folder and unzip it with either 'Unarchiver' or 'Stuffit Expander'. I use 'Unarchiver'.
Does any of the above help or am I just confused?
