|
|
After a long period of non-use I've been updating my 2589 with maps and cameras.
The full Euro map is too large but it's not offering to use Western Europe as it has done before. How can I select it manually? I don't want to use an SD card as I prefer to have just cameras on that.
I've downloaded the cameras to an SD card and they all show on the PC but map doesn't show any cameras on simulated journeys whereas I thought it did. I've deleted everything PC, Garmin and SD cards and started from scratch but still nothing on maps. What am I missing?
Any help to resolve would be appreciated. |

Hopefully somebody else can advise how to select just the Western Europe map.
But I have a 2599 and this is how I see it.
The full Euro map won't fit on my own device, so I put the full Europe maps on my SD card as well as my PGPSW camera file.
The map and the cameras work just fine from the SD card.
On the SD card there is a folder called Map with the map files in it (.img etc).
And there is a separate folder called Garmin, which contains another folder called Poi, which contains the PGPSW camera file (.gpi) that I loaded there with PoiLoader.
The PGPSW cameras do work for me on a simulated journey (I'm happy to confirm).
Perhaps you could check that the camera file loaded on your SD card has the proper extension .gpi (and not .gpx or .csv for example) and that it resides in the Garmin folder on your SD card.

On my shopping list for this week is a sdcard as my current ones in stock are too big. I only have a 2Gb or 64Gb.
I will then put the card in the 2599 and see what POILoader and GE make of it by default and where it puts the .GPI file. _________________ DashCam:

Thank you.
I have the Western Europe map on the Garmin from the last update when it was offered as an alternative to the oversized Full Euro so it's strange it doesn't offer it this time round and for the time being I'll keep the old map.
I prefer to have just the cameras on the SD card so if stopped in France I can eject it quickly. If only I could get back to France!!
I've also checked the SD card in my 2340 and that doesn't show any cameras on a simulated journey so the download must be the problem.
I'll check the file extensions later but why would the download get them wrong? |

OK I understand the France basis for your SD card choice !
But you could have 2 SD cards - one with cameras and full maps, and another kept in the car as a spare with just full maps on (for use if Card 1 was ejected !)
Now (on the file extensions check) I've seen on this forum all sorts of strange things happening when folks are tired or out of practice etc.
I never ignore the possibility that a poster has downloaded the PGPSW files and copied them straight to the device instead of using PoiLoader.

All tested and possible issue found.
1) SDCard inserted
2) Delete current PGPSW.GPI, just in case.
2) Maps downloaded.
3) POILoader for PGPSW.GPI
4) PGPSW.GPI sent to device POI Folder, not the SDCard
5) Simulate route past cameras.
6) Icons showing but no sound or banner popup.
7) Check settings and Custom POI's unticked. re-tick and all working AOK.
I can only assume that the map update to a new area, SDCard, has auto disabled the POI alerts. _________________ DashCam:

Many thanks for your advice.
I was obviously had been doing something wrong but I was using POI loader every time. Tired, old and not proficient at computer use just about covers it!
I started from scratch a few minutes ago and everything went smoothly. Cameras are loaded onto SD card in the Garmin and simulated routes show camera icon with warning voice.
The Garmin has Western Europe maps installed from the last time I updated so I'll keep that for now.

Thank you Kremmen for your input.
All now resolved. |
