I’m going to be doing some YouTube videos which involves me walking around different areas, I’d like on occasions to be able to put a split screen or picture-in picture showing where I was on a map at a particular point. Now, if I knew where those points were going to be, I could simply open up google maps and screen shot it. I’d have the time on the phone to be able to match up with the time on the video. However, I’d like a way to leave the phone tracking in the background and to be able to pull up the location for a particular time point in the video (when I’m editing it later)
So, i arrive at 09:00, I was filming at 09:30 and want to show the audience where I was on a map at that time, any easy way to do this ?
Some kind of recording app, where you can select a time and it either goes to a location on a map or simply displays the coordinates would be enough ?
Just wondered if anyone uses anything on iPhone that can do this ? |

Hi carpetpaul,
Would the following be of help?
Have a look at Apple's Record the screen on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch instructions or How To Record Your iPhone Screen on YouTube.
You would have to edit the video from the iPhone and you may find that your iPhone uses a lot of battery.

Sure, I guess that’s a thought, maybe I can use a spare old iPhone to do this.... but would it screen record for a couple of hours on end ? I can’t imagine it |

Sorry, don't know how long the screen record works.
If you're walking around and doing 'talk to camera' pieces then presumably if you do a piece about a particle subject then that subject is stationary and thus you can whip out your iPhone and take a screenshot of your location on a SatNav app.
Alternatively, you might want to record your real-time tracks using an app like Motion X, which I think will record your location and time. That might be more what you're after.

It might be easier to use a GPS track logger and run that through PC software afterwards to show the track on the map? Might be better than using a screen recorder. The resulting video from a screen recorder could be huge when you only need a few snippets for the final video. |

Hmm, that may be beyond me to be honest. Might have to settle for the stopping and regularly screen shorting the Google maps satellite view |
