@Kremmen, that's very similar to what I've been experiencing on the S20 FE
I have screen cover on my phone which turns off the screen when closed - i've not had chance to test recently but I had fully removed battery optimisation, tried different settings and got the same problem. |

Yes, bluetooth alerts just won't run in the background which is a shame
What I can't test till Tuesday is Leo's suggestion.
It may be that when the screen isn't visible it's not considered active by Android.
If you look in the location permission you should find it only gets a location when it's active so it doesn't know where you are.
I've changed my location permission to all the time and not just when the app is active. _________________ DashCam:

Even with "allow always"? |

As Leo said.
Check your location permission. By default it's set to get your location only when the app is active. Change it to always.
I've now changed mine but I won't be able to test it until Tuesday. _________________ DashCam:

The one thing I have noticed after reading the updates to this thread is that under location permission it had changed back to "allow only when using the app" after I had changed it to "allow all the time" previously.
My presumption is that must have changed after a software update to my Samsung S9+
Under normal use I have the app set to speedometer but with the setting set to "keep screen on" so am not suffering the lack of alerts. _________________ Malcolm

Yes, with the speedo showing there is no problem because presumably the app is considered active.
The reason I found this issue was that I was experimenting, trying to have Google Maps showing on top with STA running in the background.
It looks like when the screen shuts down, for whatever reason, it stops issuing bluetooth alerts, or, as Leo is suspecting, it stops logging your position so it doesn't know it's approaching a camera.
And, yes, you are right that program updates change the permission setting back to 'active only'. _________________ DashCam:

Now understand what you were trying to do, I have tried the same.
I have to connect phone via USB which then shows Android auto Google maps navigation on the screen with STA running in the background with the sound over bluetooth. _________________ Malcolm

That's useful to know, thanks.
My next car will have AA so that's exactly what I was trying to mimic. _________________ DashCam:

@Leo_A
@walker_x
Good news, Leo was right.
I have my STA set to fire up when it detects the BT connection. What I did today was just plonk the phone in it's holder and started the car.
When it detected the connection STA fired up but in the background, no screen. The phone was still on the lock screen, not the home screen with icons.
As I approached the first camera I got a BT warning - perfect.
So, after installation make sure location permission is all the time and Bob's your uncle

I always have mine set to allow all the time and also removed battery optimisation
I connect via USB to my car (Megane MK4) and then start AA from the AA button on the media-screen.
I don't always listen to my own music and sometimes listen to the built in radio. AA works fine and still passes out directions.
For permissions for STA I have allow all the time for location and disabled the remove permissions if app isn't used (samsung only classes app as used when you physically open it and not have it running in background, so this step is important)
Now from what I think under bluetooth, you need to set to notifications and ringtone if you are not playing your own media but listening to the cars radio, otherwise you won't get notifications.
The media channel it defaults to is only for when playing your own media. My car switches to BT Media if wish to play from spotify, deeezer, plec, poweramp, etc, so the default would work and would get alerts.
Under my connection/disconnection settings I have only Start Application unticked
Under Hands-Free mode settings, nothing is ticked
This seems to be working as i got notified of a mobile camera location (never seen one there for the past 20 years) and I think it started saying the static camera I went past but TT had kicked in with instructions so heard that instead. |

Ah, right, I'm fully BT between phone and car as my oldish car doesn't have AA.
I had 3 issues, all with the screen closing and no more alerts.
Now I have location permission set to all the time it's fixed all 3 issues.
Phone connects via BT and I have a memory stick connected via USB for 'decent' music
STA does seem to be geared towards BT with its dedicated section. _________________ DashCam:

I may sometimes have music on my mobile to listen to but not sure how this is played over the car speakers when running AA (ie via usb media or via bt)
but just hoping don't have to keep changing settings to get the alerts working |

I know the answer has been posted here before but cannot locate it.
Driving on the M4 yesterday through the average speed zone for upgrade works between Hayes and Reading the section beyond Maidenhead to Reading has been changed to 60 MPH from 50 MPH.
Sorry did not note the exact location of change to submit an update to the database but kept getting obviously the slow down nag.
Someone did mention before there is a section of the screen you can tap to override this, I usually have it set to display speedometer rather than the map. _________________ Malcolm

I think you have remembered that CA has that feature. I'm not sure STA has that.
@Leo_A ?
On the positive side though, I will be driving from Hayes to Reading tomorrow, Friday, and I will get the boundary changes so they will be updated next Wed at the latest. I break off at J10 so we will need to know where it continues to.
I did log the 50 to 60 change 2 weeks ago eastbound from J10 to J3. _________________ DashCam:
