|
|
I want to copy the POIs from one Via 135 to another, so I go to "Manage community content" in MyDrive Connect and in the POI list I click on "Copy to computer" next to a POI category.
Two IrfanView screens open, one showing the bmp and the other showing the message "....ov2: Can't read file header! Unknown file format, empty/damaged file or file not found!" This happens with both Via 135s, and there's no problem navigating to or managing POIs on either device..
I've never had a problem copying POIs to my computer in the past, although I haven't done it for some time.
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions as to how I might overcome this problem. _________________ Anita

Can you use Windows file explorer to see these bmp and ov2 files and copy them across manually.
TT do seem to be crippling devices by insisting you use their bugged programs to manage them. _________________ DashCam:

Thanks for your reply, Kremmen.
As far as I know there is no way to access these files until they've been copied to a computer and, instead of asking where the files should be saved as in the past, it tries to open them in IrfanView. I've saved the bmp, which seems to be absolutely normal but, of course, the ov2 file won't open.
I've downloaded POIViewer10 and made it the default for opening POI files, but IrfanView still attempts to open it and fails. _________________ Anita

Something you could try.
In File Explorer, Right Click an OV2 File and choose properties.
Under the General tab, look for 'Opens with:'.
You can select the Change button to choose an app that works for you. Mine is set to PoiEdit.
I can't replicate the problem you have. _________________ Richard

Thanks, Oldboy.
That's what I've done, using POIViewer10, making that the default for opening OV2 files, but when I click on "Copy to computer" in MyDrive Connect/Manage Community Cotent, Irfanview opens the BMP file and tries to open the OV2 file and fails.
If it works OK for you it must be something to do with my laptop. I'll investigate the settings for IrfanView. _________________ Anita

I'm not near my PC to investigate but there is a way to cancel 'file associations'.
OV2 must be set on yours with a default program.
I'll be home monday to check if this is still a problem.
I was just thinking a simple copy/paste from one device to the other. That shouldn't need any file association. _________________ DashCam:

You can't copy and paste, the only way to access the files is through MyDrive Connect!
Changing the file association for OV2 files to POIViewer10 or POIEdit doesn't stop IrfanView from trying to open it.
However, I think it may be something to do with Firefox, my usual browser, because I've just tried using IE and it copies the OV2 file to my computer!! _________________ Anita

Me too, Richard, but for some reason this is working in both IE and Edge but not in Firefox _________________ Anita

In Firefox, select Tools, from the Menu Bar, then choose Options.
Under the General tab (the default), scroll down to the Applications section.
In the Content Type selection field, Left Click the OV2 entry. At the right of the highlight should be a Drop Down Box. Select 'Always ask'. _________________ Richard

The Content Type doesn't include OV2 or TomTom Binary.
'Always ask you where to save files' is selected under Downloads.
Thanks for trying to help, Richard, but I'll just have to use IE or Edge for copying POIs to my computer. _________________ Anita

The only other thing to try is to reset the Download Handler.
See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-firefox-behavior-when-open-file
You should then get the What do you want to do with this File window, and be able to chose 'Do this automatically ...' _________________ Richard
