I tried to check for updates this morning using GE, but keep getting "Server outage" errors.
Meanwhile, I see Garmin hit by outages after ransomware attack. |

Interesting. I tried to connect to GE yesterday but couldn't check for updates - this morning there was at least an orange warning banner appearing with the message of server outage. _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.80

GE appears to be working again.
It seems that they have either found a work-round the problem or, maybe, paid the, reportedly, $10-million ransom. |

You would hope these days that good offline backups are regularly taken.
It does make me wonder why some critical companies don't have airgap systems.
My old company had critical systems that you could only access from the office. To access other areas you needed a company laptop suitably setup with secret ID's. No ID, no access. _________________ DashCam:

After installing the malware, you wait for a complete backup cycle to complete, before activating it - so that all the backups contain the malware too!

I sent them a support email on 13/8/20. I got an automated acknowledgement, but nothing since.
If you login to my.garmin.com and click the "Support" link (which takes you to https://www.garmin.com/en-GB/us/support/ ), you (eventually) get a web page that says:-
"404 - You seem to be lost"
It's supposed to "Access and manage your correspondence with Product Support."
I suppose I'd better ring 'em up. |

I think that they are already sending the Inrix data over Smartlink.
I was experimenting with SmartLink on the way to work this morning and noticed that the road I was travelling on showed as closed even though it was clearly open. The Garmin was persistently trying to route me off the road that showed as closed.
When I checked online viaMichelin were showing the correct section of road as being closed but Inrix had erroneously included the section that I was travelling on. The Garmin was receiving the traffic data from Smartlink but was displaying the Inrix version of the road closure. _________________ Paul |
