Sorry if this is already known, but I came across this when searchimg for info on my traffic updates problem in my other post.
See this link, statement and full info at bottom of the web page.
https://www.garmin.com/en-GB/traffic/
They are saying digital traffic will end and only RDS-FM updates will be available or the option of connecting to a smartphone.
Quote: | Dear Customer,
Garmin would like to inform you that that the Garmin Digital Traffic service for the United Kingdom will cease to exist as from 30th June 2021 due to the current service provider discontinuing the service. Whilst any compatible Garmin device will continue to receive traffic updates via the RDS-TMC provider after this date, Garmin would recommend users to take advantage of our Live Traffic service to ensure they are receiving the most comprehensive coverage and updated traffic information possible. |

That pretty much means I won't be buying another Garmin.
Google maps can do traffic and STA can do cameras.
I wonder if TT are continuing with a decent traffic service beyond June 2021 as RDS is pathetic in comparison.
Given the current traffic comes from Inrix, who I doubt is closing, it must be that the partnership has gone sour. _________________ DashCam:

I moved to a cheap (£80) large smartphone about 3 months ago. It doesn't overheat without a case and works fine.
If traffic has to be provided by a smartphone link and traffic info is my main reason for a SatNav, it removes the need for a separate, stand alone sat nav. |

Oh dear, that makes life a bit more difficult.
I bought the Garmin because TomTom stopped supporting the camera database from here.
Google maps or Waze are good for routing and traffic but then I need to rely on CamerAlert for the speed cameras and I don't find it reliable enough on an iPhone. I also don't like using the phone for navigation on long journeys because it gets rather hot.
I don't want to connect the phone to the Garmin for traffic because it connects to the hands free system in the car whether I am using sat nav or not and it can't support 2 simultaneous Bluetooth connections.
No idea what to do now. Can anyone recommend a stand alone satnav unit with sensible routing, good traffic (without connecting it to my phone) and which will accept the PGPSW camera database? _________________ Paul |

Same here. My phone connects to the car and the Michelin based smartlink traffic was pants a few years ago and I don't suppose it's changed much.
Garmin have been moving to LMT-S and away from LMT-D for a while now so I still reckon it's a Garmin decision to save dosh and they've dropped Inrix rather than Inrix stopping the service. I think TT use Inrix as well so we'll no doubt find out next year.
Since I started using CA then STA I've not used the PGPSW database on my Garmin in anger for quite a while now.
Still 10 months to go but I'd happily move to TT just for traffic and routing. _________________ DashCam:

I do all of my route planning in BaseCamp so will stick with my Garmin and if needed use the smart link app. Don't take calls while I'm driving and the smart link app displays texts etc on to my Garmin which is all I need _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

"Garmin Digital Traffic service for the United Kingdom will cease to exist as from 30th June 2021 due to the current service provider discontinuing the service."
To me this suggests that the service could continue in Europe and the rest of the world. |

That is the holy grail of SatNavs, and I suspect that one with all of those features no longer exists.
I shall watch this thread with interest.

My own view is that TomTom's routing and Traffic data is better than Garmin's when I ran a TomTom against a Garmin at the same time.
However, Garmin allows custom POIs including the PGPSW camera database. TomTom stopped supporting custom POIS around 2010! So you pays your money and you takes your choice.
Everyone has to decide their own requirements, i.e. whether to go for routing/traffic or custom POIs.

I've tried that on a trip from Newcastle to Manchester and tomtom was bang on the mark for avoiding traffic around the ring road both ways, whereas if i had followed the garmin i would have been well and truly stuck.Garmin in my opinion pick up the traffic but not as quick as tomtom, couple of times i've been caught in traffic before garmin has noticed.I have a garmin & tomtom for car and van but will now buy a second tomtom and the garmin will go on eBay |

I still keep coming back to my original question .......
Garmin use Inrix as its digital traffic (TA cable) provider.
Tomtom also use Inrix but they also use Vodaphone enabled mobiles location and speed data to add a bit more and earlier accuracy.
So ..... if Inrix are stopping its service then surely TT will have the same issue come next year ?
My gut feeling is that Garmin have decided to end the partnership and why they've been moving from LMT-D to MT-S devices for a while now. _________________ DashCam:
