Has anyone got anything detrimental to report about this device? I've seen reports of it continually rebooting during journeys but that was during it's early days.

If this is for a new purchase, get an LMT-D version for the lifetime maps.

I don't think Garmin priduce ""L" versions any more. That's why I bought an older DS61 LMT-D when my 2699 battery started fully diischarging within 72hrs.

I did try and find out why the L had been dropped but there were conflicting answers.

Some were saying maps could still be updated forever whilst others, like me, could see a time limit being introduced, planned obsolescence maybe.

Thanks for the input. I already have the 61 LMT-D and just wonder whether the 65 is so much better that it's worth the cost of an upgrade or whether I just sit back until a superior unit is produced.

Just had a look at the 65. Seems that Alexa features strongly. As far as I understand, Alexa is pretty reliant on an internet connection.
Have you got one of those in your car without fannying about with a phone battery eating hot spot and plenty of mobile data? I don't.

I have lots of mobile data, more than enough to cope but I've had a long hard think about the 65 and decided to sit back for the time being until a future unit has so many tweaks that it'll be irresistible.

Whether it's navigation devices or dashcams they are packing, or trying to pack so much in they are ignoring the basic idea the device is designed to do.

I do occasionally look in on the Nextbase forum and it's got issues with the new tech like Alexa and the SOS function but surprisingly they still haven't got their parking mode sorted properly which is a dashcam core function for some.

Or the rear cam which apparently 'freezes' when it is cold.

Totally agree with both your comments. The more additions there are, the greater the chance of something going wrong. It's the same with all technologies nowadays.

I was thinking of getting the DS 65 LMT-D without Alexa and having downloaded speed cams poi’s and voices from this site wondered if it was possible to load these directly to the device via WiFi from my Apple computer without using Garmin Express?

Has anyone tried this and did it work, the reason I ask is because my current 3598LMT won’t talk to me as it approaches speed cameras as SOX is not compatible with Apple in order to have the voices play.

If you want POILoader to import voices then unfortunately you do need Windows.
