I have a VW T-Roc on order, trying to work out what make of Sat Nav it uses. How easy is it to load my own POIs? |

Have you also asked on a VW owner forum as they will know more than us. _________________ DashCam:

I did try on a VW owner forum and they were completely unhelpful.
Beginning to wonder about updating the maps so tried to make a backup copy of the memory card but the car does not recognise the backup copy - puts up a message that no map database. |

Is it an SD card? The S in SD stands for "secure". The clue is in the name.
But can't comment about helpfulness or otherwise from VW forums. |

If the map data is on a sd card then you’ve got a discovery media unit. The other option, which you don’t have, is the discovery plus unit, which runs the map data from a solid state disk, not a sd card.
What year is your troc? It is possible to load poi’s to the vw head unit, but there are different generations of the discovery media, the newer ones have a smooth, all glass facia, without physical buttons. The older units, which were installed circa 2016 -2018, have physical buttons. Both types pretty much run the same firmware, but like all IT, that has been progressively updated over time.
If you are looking to backup your sd card then you need to copy the contents to a pc. You can’t use any old sd card to run the nav though, it has to be the vw sd card. So if you corrupt it, you can reload the backup files to the original sd card and it should work. The original sd card has an encrypted key on a hidden partition. That is why it has to be that card and not a generic sd card. |
