When I have STA running the average speed and actual speed show on screen. However, yesterday I noticed that the average speed figure had been replaced by a single digit starting with 1 then over a period of time this changed progressively 2 - 3 -4 - 5 - 6 at which point I was home.
Anyone tell me what this means as I wasn't aware of making any changes to instigate it.
And can the average speed be removed when not in an average speed camera zone? |

I've made a few posts about removing the average speed when not appropriate but I've not had a reply yet.
I have my phone down by my left elbow so I don't see what's happening most of the time.
When it warms up a bit I'm hoping to devise a better location. All Brodit do is an air vent job and I don't want to block them or have icy aircon air blowing the back of the phone. _________________ DashCam:

I've shaped a bracket from sheet ali and glued a Garmin ball to it for the sat nav so it overhangs the edge of the dash above the radio. I use a magnetic mount stuck to the centre of the dash for the phone. Both phone and Garmin fire up when ignition is turned on.

I've got an idea. I need to do some panel beating on a 2" sheet of mild steel to get it just right, followed up with some matt black spray. The my dedicated Brodit mount will bolt to that. _________________ DashCam:

To renew the question
What does the upper number represent on the STA speedo display when not in an average speed camera location?
My phone shows the lower, larger number for actual speed correctly but the smaller figure above increases in increments of one over a period of minutes. It starts in single digits but yesterday got up to 28 on a short journey.

1 - GPS Accuracy
2 - Distance covered
3 - Indicator of falling avg. speed (invisible here, because avg. growth)
4 - Average speed. This is the distance covered divided by the time passed.
For example, you stay at some point for an hour, then begin to move at 100 mph for 1 minute. Your avg. speed is only 1.65 mph after that.
5 - Indicator of growing avg. speed
6 - Your current speed from GPS |

OSOMOUNT 360. Sticky sucker has stayed unmoving on my orange peel dashboard ever sinc I put it there two years ago. It IS removable - I took it off my previous van two years ago - it had been on that for three years. You could say I recommend them! _________________ Dennis

Thanks Dennis.
I'm limited for mounting locations because my dashboard is so busy. There's very little room for anything extra.
Where the phone is on this example I have my Garmin:

Thank you very much that's really helpful.
So, to clarify, every time the STA is started it will calculate average speed based on time and distance until is it turned off? |

Or is there a way of resetting it 'on the move' is the other half of that question?
And all done without the need to quote the three previous posts. |

I'd just like the average speed to disappear when I'm not in an average speed zone as it serves no purpose. _________________ DashCam:

It does if you want to know your average speed. You could do this at any time in CA by tapping the speed readout. |

Why would you want to know your instant average speed other than in a zone though ? _________________ DashCam:

Yes, this is trip avg speed.
When you pass SPECS, another av. calc begins while trip av calc continues in the background. |

I can't think of any reason to want to know my instant average speed other than in a zone.
However, the ability to switch off or switch on average speed is useful if (in the unlikely event that) you come across a new (or newly modified) SPECS which isn't fully in the PGPSW database. In that case please report it to PGPSW as soon as possible.
