In the six months from May 20, over 3000 motorists have been caught speeding through roadworks on the A9 - reportedly Scotland’s most dangerous road.

The section, at Bankfoot, in Perth and Kinross, is monitored by average speed cameras, is part of the Scottish Government’s dualling project and has had its speed limit reduced from 60mph to 40mph.

Most speeders were caught between 40 and 60 mph but four were caught between 81 and 100mph. However, 99% of drivers were found to be in compliance.

The road safety charity Brake commented: "Temporary speed limits around roadworks are put in place to keep those carrying out the works safe, so it is of great concern to see so many drivers caught speeding through them. Breaking the speed limit by any amount can have devastating consequences, and drivers who selfishly ignore speed limits put not only themselves, but other road users, at serious risk."

I wonder if they will reveal the same for the M4 roadworks.

I don't see that many but there are a few.

A DPD van shot past me the other morning and I reckon he was doing at least 80 in the 50 zone.

3000 in 6 months is only about 16 per day, which is nothing special.

... and a 40 mph limit looks like scottish harshness, on what looks to be an easy sweeping main road, both on the map and on google streetview.

Unreasonable sporran speed limits are not good.

Well they are a bit extreme up there. Take that wee lassie in a helmet as an example. Having said that, I don't think they are as extreme as some I could mention.
And they are going to need all the money they can get for their fiscal excesses when they get their (her) way and become independent under the EU but without English taxpayers' money

Regarding the roadworks Specs cameras ..... I've been going through them at SatNav 50mph (Speedo 53mph) using cruise, since October without issue.

There have been quite a few who are gambling that the 10% + 2mph is still valid through Specs roadworks.

I wonder what the tollerance is, not that I would ever exceed true 50mph.

You're probably right.

I'm doing speedo 53 so I'm passing cars doing speedo 50 (most of them) at a walking pace.

I'm in turn being occasionally overtaken at about the same walking pace by cars that must be doing about speedo 56 and the number doesn't seem to be reducing so they are likely escaping the brown envelope.

I'm not willing to gamble.

Even though the M4 doesn't touch Scotland Smile

I must admit, I'm considering that me doing SatNav 50mph is a small gamble.

You never know whether a camera clocks me at 51mph and a jobsworth says gotcha

Trying to make progress in any Specs zone often isn't possible because you tend to have all lanes travelling at, or very close, to the prevailing limit.

Then, as I've often found, you get the selfish driver(s) who are doing less than the limit, in the outside lanes and refuse to move over when clear.

End result is all lanes of traffic doing ~5mph under the limit and your boxed in.
