If there is no/weak DAB transmissions where you are driving you will not get traffic (stating the obvious), so it seems like reception problems rather than information problems. Although there could be some of that thrown in as well.
RE. RDS, Not sure, but it does seem strange that they scan all those frequencies, but not use them, as well. |

I understand that, but when the unit reports on the Settings/ traffic page 5 green bars and traffic up to date, you would have no way of knowing there is an issue if you didn't know where to find this other screen. That said, I can't be sure of the green bars today, but they have definitely been present previously when I have been experiencing these issues as I have checked when stationery.
I know DAB radio and traffic are different, but the radio is fine along the route, so at least sometimes I get to hear the traffic news before I am stuck _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 51 LMT-D Europe |

I'm now wondering if you do indeed have a defective unit.
I'd be swapping it out under warranty and see what a second unit does. _________________ DashCam:

I've tried finding a way to contact them, but they only offer chat and phone, not a great fan of either and prefer email
edit: found an email form, but it doesn't take many words. I've had to email them with a short message which will inevitably lead to ticket tennis. _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 51 LMT-D Europe |

Phoning is really the best way to avoid that. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I have phoned them in the past.
I seem to recall they are Portsmouth based so you will get UK support. The one big snag seems to be, like most India call centres, that they provide support via cue cards so there is little personal 'common sense' answers.
When M8 and I were having the Inrix transmission issues Garmin support were going down the master reset route and other non relevent tasks when they should have known that Inrix had a major UK outage.
Having said that, it's worth a shot. _________________ DashCam:

Emailed them last night, had a reply at 9am this morning with a proper email address contact, so far so good.
I don't like the phone for tech support as I get frustrated easily and can get awkward. Email is easier for me to stay raitonal.
It has been mostly behaving itself today, although quite a substantial downtime around Aylesbury. _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 51 LMT-D Europe |

I know I said I prefer to use email, but surely the least Garmin could do is read them? I provided all the information that would be needed, model, serial number, software version, firmware, yada yada yada. Screenshots of the traffic dashboard and explanations of the problem. My response? Please provide your model, serial number, software version, etc, etc
Copy and paste is a terrible invention. _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 51 LMT-D Europe |

So the latest reply from Garmin is
Quote: | I am sorry to hear the issues are still occurring, if you have performed resets and ensured the device is up to date, it may be something within the GPS chip itself. |
Would the GPS chip be powering the traffic? I would have thought they would be separate things.

Seems unlikely, but with today's integration of different functions onto on chip, who knows? Or even, who cares? |

Me, because it would be handy to know if they are plucking answers out of the sky, or if there really could be a related problem. _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 51 LMT-D Europe |

I consider that the real problem here is that the Inrix traffic data is inaccurate. I have been in traffic jams that are not reported on the Garmin, but are on Google Maps Traffic, and on checking I have full traffic signal strength and it says it is up to date. Tapping the map and then zooming out I often can see other roads displayed with traffic, but not the one that I am on. Grrrrrr |
