TBH, you're better off connecting your phone to the car system and run CamerAlert if you have a compatible phone.

That does announce cameras via the car system and has the bonus of being directional.

I still use my Garmin for the superior traffic and I can see the PGPSW cameras appearing some time before CA announces them.

As far as the weekly release is concerned via the CSV Converter, remember to only unzip the 'camera' files, the option in bold.
By doing that your preferred BMP and WAV selection isn't changed.

Takes just a couple of minutes to update the Garmin.

I can do casual sarcasm, but I'm fresh out of words of wisdom or advice on this one. Kremmen is the expert here.
Let me get this straight. Do you mean the the "Turn left onto High Street" comes from the car speakers, but "Speed camera ahead, 40MPH" does not. (Purely invented voice sounds)

The way I read it was that he has paired his Garmin to his car.

The existing Garmin 'voices' come through the car but the speed cam warnings don't.

Hi, you’re both correct, “turn left at the junction”, Garmin’s Cyclops cameras, any Alexa responses, music/radio via Alexa etc all come through the stereo system in the car, this isn’t directly paired though (see below).

All the Custom POIs added from PGPSW will only route through the Garmin’s internal speaker and ignore the fact there’s an external speaker linked.
There are 3 options in the BT menu for audio routing;
1 - Navigation and OK Garmin
2 - Alexa and Media
3 - Phone Calls

I would have assumed that our own added sounds come under the ‘Media’ heading but it appears this model (DriveSmart 65 with Amazon Alexa) treats them differently, doesn’t quite know what to do so plays it through the internal speaker as default.

It’s not earth shattering as I can still see / hear them just wondered if anyone else had come across this behaviour and found a work around.

Some points I’ve noted though are this DS65 model doesn’t pair directly to the car as it uses the Garmin Drive app and when connected there are 2 BT connections reported in the iPhone, BLE_Steve’s Sat and BT_Steve’s SatNav.

So it maybe something there but seems unlikely, the main point is there is no direct BT link between Garmin and Peugeot and no direct link between the Drive App and the Peugeot, the satnav and the app ‘talk’ to each other via BT and then the app uses the BT link between the iPhone and the car to transmit audio.....phew!

My first guess is that the sounds for the PGPSW Custom POIs do not fall into any of the above 3 categories so default to the internal speaker.

I’ll tinker with it, see if I can find a resolution and report back with any findings.

The odd thing from what you've said is the difference between Cyclops and PGPSW as they are both .GPI files in the same place.

Maybe because both Cyclops and PGPSW are both trying to transmit identical camera warnings at the same time......

Part of my tinkering would be to *disable Cyclops.

I wonder whether the root cause is also to do with the fact that we need sox.exe in the POILoader folder causing some difference to how the voices are read by the device.

Back again with an update after having had a chance to use it properly at the weekend.

It seems the issue is with the unit and the way it handles certain system events. My previous report that Cyclops was through BT was technically rubbish!

I switched them back on, checked and they too come through the internal and not the car speaker, also discovered that other map notifications are routed through the Garmin and not via BT, e.g. change in speed limit, other map warnings etc.

So, I’m going to get in touch with Garmin as it appears to be a system bug and nothing to do with the way that PGPSW cameras are reported.

If I get any sense out of them I’ll report back soon.

I’m not holding my breath! It’s going to need a firmware update to resolve the issue as there is currently no available option in the settings.....
Should get my first ‘stock’ response soon, telling me to do this, that or the other when I’ve already told them it’s a software programming issue, will report back with the level of stupidity I receive soon......

If you pair your phone to a Garmin and you get a phone call what speaker does it use phone or Garmin ?

It uses the car BT stereo connection but it’s not really intercepting or placing calls......

It won’t even let me use the Phone settings on the satnav as they are not available nor will it let me initiate a call from the device.

It knows that there is already a BT link between the phone and the car so tells me that I have to place a call from either the phone or the car controls.

The two BT connections it makes (mentioned above somewhere) seem to only be there to transmit ‘Live’ data to the device from the app, pass Alexa requests to the phone and also the responses back and relay media information to the PND’s media player but they have nothing to do with phone calls as the satnav hands over to the phone/car link for that functionality.

Hope that makes sense...

In that case I'd go back to what I said earlier, and do as I've done.

Put CamerAlert on your car paired phone
Set CA output to 'bluetooth headset'
Load cameras to Garmin without sounds (so you see but don't hear them)

The bonus is directional alerts

Cheers Kremmen, will head on out tomorrow and see how that set-up pans out after I’ve reconfigured the Garmin to remove the voice files.

If they get enough complaining then they may sort out the software but in the meantime.......

Until you've got CA working I'd just turn the Garmin volume down to almost zero.

If it works the same as mine then when a warning is issued it mutes the audio (CD/Radio/USB), issues the warning, then returns the audio.

For me that's perfect as the audio doesn't drown out any warning.
