Does anyone know of a way of changing the display colour for routes on the eTrex10,20,30 series? I know you can change track colours, but there isn't an obvious way to change route colour. The topographix GPS Style Schema documentation http://www.topografix.com/GPX/gpx_style/0/2/ has an extension which defines line color and type but it is seemingly ignored by the eTrex.
I have a related question on how routepoints are displayed on the 30x. Having eventually managed to get rid of the dreaded blue pins which clutter-up the screen and replaced them with a custom icon, the display is much improved, but I'd still like to be able to change the icon for individual routepoints. I know you can do this for Waypoints, but it seems strange that there isn't an option to do it for routepoints (as they use the same gpx schema complextype as waypoints do).
I mainly use a Windows10 PC with MemoryMap software, but have also tried using Basecamp and manually editing the gpx files, all to no avail. |

The magenta line is almost universal on Garmin devices, and AFAIK there is no way to change that.
You can change the icon for waypoints in a route, as you've discovered if you've got rid of the blue pin, but that's it. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

If I'm using Memory Map to plot where to walk, I draw a Track (not a route) to send to the Garmin.
Then I don't have to worry about waypoints cluttering up the Garmin screen. _________________ nuvi 2599LMT-D, oregon 700, basecamp, memory-map. |

Unfortunately a track doesn't provide the info I need, so I always use routes, I suspect the OP prefers routes too. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I would give GPSU a try. www.gpsu.co.uk
I have had success with it in changing Waypoint icons before loading a route to garmins.

Thanks for your replies and I agree with the verifier's comments about the use of tracks - they don't do it for me either. It would seem that I'll have to live with it as it is and look forward to Garmin providing some sensible software update in the future (unlikely I know, but you can live in hope). I find the inconsistencies between Basecamp and the hand-held GPSr paradigms baffling (eg the way you name Custom icons). |
