Has anyone installed all cameras on a VW Discovery Media Gen 2 sat nav - vehicle is a golf estate 2019. Considering it’s £20 for access to download, the help is limited and confusing and you are directed to a forum. Any help would be much appreciated. SCDB camera site is cheaper and straight forward, you download the files and copy to SD card, so might just go there if i don’t have any luck here! |

I don't have a VW. Possibly quite a lot of users don't have a 2019 Golf Estate, so help may be a little slow in forthcoming.
What type (format) of files do you download for SCDB?
If it's that simple for SCDB as to download and copy to SD card, that's just like most of us do with PGPSW database. The only variations are having the correct format files (and we do many - for example VW options mentioned are OV2, GPX and ASC) and unzipping the download to copy to SD card. _________________ Dennis

Hi Dennis, images are PNG and other poidata files are .DB3 no mention of files you mentioned. I Belive this sat Nav system is installed in older makes and models. Main two files located in directory is a folder called “PersonalPOI” and text document “metainfo2”. This is a test download to check if it is compatible. It’s a shame pocketgps world don’t offer something similar. |

Like I said, I don’t own a VW, so I can’t help. I don’t think we do .DB3 format, but I do remember in the distant past some mention of them, but what it was I have no recollection - it might have been discussion on converting PGPSW files to .DB3 format.
As for free trial/test data, there are lots of free POIs available to download to see what might work. _________________ Dennis

Free downloads don’t work because they are not in the right format?
I did find a help guide on how to use POInspect0r to create your own custom PersonalPOI database for use on the Volkswagen RNS510 Satellite Navigation System. But seems quite a hassle converting multiple files considering this process would need to be repeated when downloading new updates.

Think I will give it a miss
Thanks anyways |

Well, if you give up after my non-help, that's your decision. I wasn't claiming to know anything and for such community based stuff it is generally expected that the users need to put in a bit of effort themselves.
Out of interest, if you have a smartphone (iPhone or Android), you could try CamerAlert for free - free download of the App, then first download of latest camera database is free, will require subscription for any further updates. I too have difficulty using the downloads for my built in satnav (Renault R-Link) which has really clunky software, so instead, I just use the satnav for navigation and CamerAlert on my iPhone with bluetooth to the vehicle for handsfree phone and camera warnings. _________________ Dennis

This Posting suggests that it is pretty straight forward. Have you seen it? _________________ Richard
