Hi
I am getting a new Ford Focus and have been asked if I want the Ford Sync3 DAB Navigation system added. I have had the Garmin Drive Smart 61 LMT-D for a while in my other car, I don't want to lose the camera data base. Can the camera base be used on the SYNC3 ?
Thank you |

Hi Romansilver,
No, as far as I'm aware, the Ford SYNC3 can't use custom POIs - therefore it can't use the PGPSW camera database. You might be able to save favourite destinations but that's about all.
My father-in-law bought a new Ford Fiesta Titanium Turbo petrol (MY 2017) in November 2017 and that car has the Ford Sync 3 system. You can read more in the Ford Fiesta Titanium Turbo petrol (MY 2017) does it take DB? thread.

no, but the sync maps do have camera locations embedded in the map data as "caution spots" |

How accurate is the SYNC3 database of "caution spots" when compared to PGPSW's database of fixed and mobile sites?
How often is the SYNC3 database updated, is it regular or only when the map itself is updated? If it's only updated with the map then it could be quite out-of-date.
After googling a Ford forum, I'm confused as to whether the driver is alerted about "caution spots" all of the time or only when a route is planned on the SYNC3.

updates with the map only seem fairly accurate but only includes fixed cameras. temporary and mobiles are not included. as the included cameras are unlikely to change very often accuracy is fairly good. 3rd party apps like cameralert are supported via applink if the app developer chooses to support it. at present, it isn't but it could in future if pocketgpsworld chose to do so. |

Hi cjay2412,
Yes, it should be reasonably accurate if it only does fixed cameras. However, you also need to be aware of the mobile and tempory cameras as well.
I agree that it would be useful if CamerAlert was updated so that it could use built-in systems by using AppLink, Apple Car Play, Android Auto, etc.

Unfortunately there are quite a lot of compatibility developments needed for CamerAlert and I would hope the longer outstannding ones get actioned first. _________________ Dennis

Sygic and custom POIs is a bit of a grey area! If you have a look at the Sygic website about POIs, you'll see mention of custom POIs for both iPhone (iOS) and Android. However, there's no mention of proximity alerts for POIs.
In addition, for some reason, Sygic uses proprietary POI formats of either .upi or .rupi instead of the more conventional formats of .csv, .gpx, or even .ov2. as a Mac user, I've not found a way of converting my POIs to try in iOS Sygic.
Also, IIRC, last time I contacted Sygic for help with POIs for iOS iPhone they said that it wasn't possible, despite the Sygic website stating otherwise.
Sorry, it's been a long time since I tried experimenting with Sygic iOS but I would be interested if anybody has had any success with it.

Sygic removed proximity alerts for user POIs quite a long time ago, much to the disgust of many users.
Their cameras don't seem to be particularly accurate, with quite a few 'back garden' ones around in Kent, esp, the Medway towns. |
