DennisN, why are you surprised?
Both the TomTom iOS GO Mobile app and the entire current range of TomTom PNDs are barely at the Fisher-Price level for functions and usability, i.e. they have much fewer functions than their predecessors 10 years ago!
TomTom is apparently heavily involved in the automated car industry - if TomTom can't get SatNavs right then how on earth should they be trusted to work with automated driverless cars?

Exactly.
Autonomous is fine in theory but a spec of dirt on a lens and it all goes to pot. That fatality a year or so ago where sun hitting the camera lens made the system fail to see a crossing truck, scary.
Garmin are no different as they'd be taking you off and on motorways, divert round side streets and so on. _________________ DashCam:

If you travelled with me through London, you’d see what a pipe dream is this driverless cars thing. I drive along the main road past Piccadilly Station, St Pancras, etc and my satnav suddenly jumps across to the next street and starts telling me how to get back on track. I run three TT satnavs alongside each other and sure as eggs is eggs one of them will give me different routing.
But whilst we have become accustomed to TT’s satnavs getting worse with annual “improvements”, I would have expected a third party web company to do better. That website has been “developing” ever since day one. _________________ Dennis
