TomTom currently offering me the GO 6200 with a £100 discount, so £239 instead of usual price £339. Don't know if this offer is available to all; check their website for details. |

i got the email today and was tempted as my trusted 930 i guess is or will be end of life updates soon.
i only do one or two long trips yearly but i always use my 930 even though i have a bmw sat nav that isnt much cop tbh.
ive tried searching about the 9200 as i wanted to find out if it had a slot for a sd card. reason i was looking for this info was because ive read a few reviews and it looks like even though its suposed to be world maps one review said there was not enough space to update the usa map so he had to delete some of europe to make space even though it has a 16gb internal memory.
the more important bit im guessing it wont let you use the speed cameras from here which ive been using since 2006

There isn't a SIM card slot (the SIM card for traffic is built in and inaccessible), just a micro SD card slot. I've put a 32GB card in there, should cope with quite a lot.
Your 930 is fourteen and three quarter times better than the 6200, so look after it as long as you can. The only thing going for the 6200 is the size of the screen and the free lifetime maps and traffic. _________________ Dennis

long time no chat DennisN. hope you are well.
thanks for that info. wow! 14 3/4 better :D that certainly says a lot for tomtom then as they rave about their newer models being so much better and its people like you that know what you are talking about and actually bring us the truth and i thank you for that.
ive still got the first ever tomtom and then the 910 brick and all still work but i bought the 930 just for its size and world maps. sods law ive not been to america since .
now im guessing i know the answer already but do you think those techy geek experts out there will ever be able to get pocket gps cameras working on these new models or has TT scuppered that idea.
edit:
ps. as i got £100 of for being a loyal customer i thought that was a nice gesture.
ive just checked out the end of life list and they offer a link to get same kit for £237 instead of £239
ok i know its only £2 difference but its the point of receiving an email saying they are ofering a special deal when actuall the deal is out there for everyone for a fraction cheaper. |

TomTom have ended the possibility of installing pgpsw camera database and using it meaningfully (view on map, meaningful icons, good audible warnings) and I’d put my mortgage on betting that they will not restore it. _________________ Dennis

By the way, I forgot to mention I’d bet at least 10p that TT bring out new models before Christmas. _________________ Dennis

Thanks Dennis, I was just about to ask the question: when do TT bring out their new models each year as I have been contemplating buying the 6200? Does anyone else have any info?

Be aware that TT will assure you that you CAN install your “third party POIs”. Which I understand is true. They simply will tell the truth, BUT not the whole truth - you can’t install your .BMP icons and your warning sounds AND you cannot “warn when near”. You can navigate to them. _________________ Dennis

I always feel the need to navigate to a random speed camera Dennmis, so don't knock it. |

Bit of a nuisance. Although, to be fair, it’s a nice drive to Torquay. _________________ Dennis

Whilst the newer TomTom PNDs can allegedly use custom (aka third party) POIs they:- Do not show the icon of the POI on either map or navigation screens
- Can't be set up for a proximity alert for the POIs.
I have another question that hopefully MrDJ will soon be able to answer:
When you create a few POI categories (i.e. .ov2 files such as "Business", "Friends and Family", "Holiday", etc) and load those POI categories into My Drive, does the TomTom PND list the separate custom POI categories and then you drill down to the individual POIs or are all custom POIs grouped together from multiple POI categories into one long list?
I have TomTom GO Mobile iOS which despite being three years old still can't import custom POIs via MyDrive!
Many thanks, _________________ Robert.
