With their inter-connecting of every thing, we're now handing Google the equivalent of a black box in our cars.
And of course the day is coming when we'll be handing them our steering wheel.
Our lives will soon totally not be our own. |
Total crap. |

The day that TomTom refused to release their Sat nav for Android , after many years running on Mobile Windows, finished them for me.....75 klm per day ?...what a joke. I'm more them happy with Co pilot and Sygic. I hope they go totally belly up...serve them right. | I too lost TomTom when they without warning stopped supporting Windows Mobile 6.5, and retrenched to stand alone devices.
Mind you, I found Copilot routing dreadful.
Sygic is actually TomTom maps and POIs. _________________ Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Nexus 5, Galaxy tab S3. Also use OSMAnd+, Sygic Mobile Maps, and OS maps app. Also "Great Britain Topo Maps" and "Old Maps". Don't use speed camera database as sticking to the limit is safer. |

Just read on TT's support forum that they will be supporting Apple CarPlay 'next year'. I suspect Google will lock them out of Android Auto _________________ TT GO app on Android Phone

Totally agree with other comments. I've been hoping for TomTom iOS to be available on Apple CarPlay with the new iOS 12 but no news. Meanwhile Google maps is there and, of course, Google maps can be run offline, so barely using any data other than for traffic. If I want up-to-date maps on my VW Passat navigation screen, rather than having to update my navigation by downloading 3GB of maps for hours, I can just plug in my iPhone and, voila, a perfectly 'usable' map.
Come on TomTom, you've got a great interface but without Carplay my annual subscription is going to be for one year only. |

Please excuse me for going off topic.
How do I persuade Google Maps to give me audible instructions? I have heard them sometimes, but I can't get them in the van - maybe because my iphone isn't linked up properly? I get CA warnings from my in car thingy (Renault R-Link). _________________ Dennis

In Google mqps
Menu (three horizontal bars top left)
Settings
Navigation settings
Play over Bluetooth

Try this:
In google maps prod the burger icon top left of the screen - then the cog icon towards the top right - Navigation:
Mute state UNMUTED
Play voice over Bluetooth ON
Play as Bluetooth phone call ON. _________________ Paul |

Thank you for such quick answers. I seem to already have those settings. I wonder if I get a conflict when I’m also running built in navigation, or maybe CamerAlert. I think I shall have to experiment with one and/or both of those not running. Will come back with results. _________________ Dennis

If TomTom had focused on making their software better and more usable, instead of stripping it down and focusing mostly on making it harder to use and less useful, I'd still be using TomTom. But they didn't, and they did, and I don't anymore. |

Killing off third party safety cameras did it for me. Perfectly happy with Garmin now, they do all I want. _________________ DashCam:
