The danger of hidden speed cameras has been highlighted.
Mohammed Darez has called attention to a camera on the A677, Preston New Road in Blackburn which he says is obscured by overhanging branches from a tree in the adjacent garden.
He says that it is "playing with people’s lives" and "It is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt or killed on this road".
He argued that: "There's no point the camera being there and it's not serving its purpose. It's being covered with branches and it won’t be catching anyone speeding. Nine out of 10 cars are going over 30mph - then they just put on the brakes."
Mr Darez believes that the camera should be replaced with an average speed camera system.
A Lancashire Road Safety Partnership spokesman commented: "We would always encourage residents to let us know about issues with cameras like overgrown trees and will ensure this is looked into; there are several housings on Preston New Road but we will ask a technician to survey the route and deal with any issues in the usual manner.
They added: "Since the roll out of average speed on eight routes in Lancashire we have received numerous requests for similar speed enforcement throughout the county. Should the road safety partnership be in a position to fund further average speed routes then priority will be given to those where reductions in speed related casualties will be the most effective. We will submit this request to the partnership analyst who is recording each request and they will be evaluated in the event that a further project is authorised by the partnership executive."

Average speed does seem to be the way to go.
They avoid the dangerous brake - accelerate mob _________________ DashCam:

Is that the dangerous drivers using the PGPSW database to drive faster than the legal limit except near cameras?
Or the dangerous drivers who aren't even exceeding the speed limit and still brake because their sat Nav warned them of a camera? _________________ Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Nexus 5, Galaxy tab S3. Also use OSMAnd+, Sygic Mobile Maps, and OS maps app. Also "Great Britain Topo Maps" and "Old Maps". Don't use speed camera database as sticking to the limit is safer. |

Braking from 35 mph to 30mph then going back to 35mph does NOT make me a dangerous driver. |

I use the database to prompt me to glance at the speedo to make sure, double check, I am not speeding.
I also use the warning to confirm that the camera is still there for verification if necessary.
= not everybody uses it as a tool for a tool. _________________ DashCam:
