As far as Garmin are concerned, forever or until their map providers (Here) get it updated. The thing to do is put the amendment on the Here database, using MapCreator. _________________ ... Joe

on the first picture, it wants you to stop before the lights, cross the dual carriage way and go up the parade past the shops, to then wait to get out and cross the dual carriageway to get back to your side of the road.
It is quicker, easier and safer to just wait at the lights... |

I'd agree. Although I see many drivers taking such actions to avoid red lights, or indeed queues at them _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I know I prefer my Garmin because of the third party cameras but TT do have vehicles about.
But, by the sound of it they need to be charting minor roads, not the western section of the M25 as captured by me on Saturday at 10:31, exact location :
N51° 17' 2" W0° 16' 2" :

I wonder if that's simply capturing junction views etc? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

While my Garmin has never sent me along to a dead end, it has directed me along clearly unsuitable roads.
There does seem to be a flaw in the routing algorithm which tries to follow a "crow flies" route, preferring the shorter de-restricted roads to speed limited primary routes.
The classic scenario it fails on is a big hill - the easy A road route goes round the hill but the Garmin chooses the single track poor quality Z grade road over the hill because it has no defined speed limit and is shorter.
This has happened to me in the Peak District, Wales and Devon, and in Spain where we ended up on a forest track. It is very difficult to get the Garmin to find an alternative route, even after having turned back to a main road and continuing on in what seems to be the sensible route. So beware in rural areas.
There have also been occasions when the Garmin has directed us off a by-pass and through a small village. We are now wise to these foibles and now ignore the directions and wait for the Garmin to catch up. Which eventually it does.
(As an aside, the in-built SatNav in a friend's Audi directed the car over a footbridge when en route to Dunham Massey! Over the Bollin by the The Swan with Two Nicks, if you're interested. My friend was furious, and complained like mad to Audi! https://bit.ly/2NusRNI ) |

I was asked to accept the massive ELUA but it froze at that point. I had to cold start several times before I was able to proceed.
Then I found I had lost my favourites for the first time in years. Not critical but annoying. I now find that the previous very clear speed limit sign has been replaced by a less distinct rectangle with, subjectively smaller numbers. If it ain't broke then don't fix it!

You need to do a master reset. The unit has switched to US road signs. By selecting English UK the normal signs will return. |

I've been in Scotland for the last ten days or so, driving between Crieff and Stirling several times.
Every time the Garmin routing indicates the minor road between Muthill and Braco instead of the A822. There are signs when entering this minor road saying "not suitable for HGV" and "Passing places". I did travel it once (when in the area for the first time) and sure enough, the signs were correct! And far from being some 2 minutes quicker it was at least 5 minutes slower.
I tried Google Maps on my phone and I was directed along the A822.
Garmin need to up their game. |

Why can't a company the size of Garmin up their game.
They must have had 100's of complaints.
I wonder what the Garmin truck SatNav's do ? _________________ DashCam:

Difficult to lay the blame with Here maps for this one.
Here have the minor road tagged with an average speed of <40mph and the major road tagged with an average speed of <64mph (in both cases there is a short section within the village tagged as <30mph).
The major road is 4.7 miles long. I recon that to be 4.4 minutes at 64mph.
The minor road is 3.4 miles long. I recon that to be 5.1 minutes at 40mph.
So the time to travel should be lower for the major road than it is for the minor road.
It doesn't seem logical for the Garmin to pick the minor road. _________________ Paul |

No it's not. I've just plugged that route into BaseCamp and then sent it to my device. Both take the A832. I even recalculated on my DS50 to be sure. So something isn't right with the OPs device, either a routing or avoidance setting or a map update requiring a master reset.
I was able to force it along the minor road by selecting shortest route, which is what I'd expect. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I was talking generally rather than specifically. Why do you keep defending Garmin's less that optimum routeing algorithm? |
