|
|
Whilst Brexit talks continue, news is emerging of a possible deal on access to Galileo's public regulated service (PRS) signal. If true this could mean our police and armed forces will retain guaranteed access to the secure encrypted signal that is PRS, a deal that surpasses anything offered to other non-EU countries.
Galileo's Public Regulated Service (PRS) is an encrypted navigation service for governmental authorised users and sensitive applications that require high continuity, it's resistant to spoofing and jamming and is intended for use by EU Member State government authorised users, e.g. emergency services and police.
However there has been no movement on allowing UK firms to build parts of the secure Galileo systems post-Brexit.

If we've already provided funding and expertise, and they cut us off, I would think some form of legal action for a refund wouldn't be out of order.
Maybe they realise this. _________________ DashCam:

Not sure that would work. It's us pulling out of the project by leaving the EU. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Given that SpaceX's Starlink constellation will (hopefully) be operational by 2020 and that they will almost certainly offer as good, if not better, location-finding facility, I'm wondering if this isn't all a bit moot...? |

The problem with requesting a refund is that UK companies benefitted the most from the project. Are you going to ask their employees for their salaries or shareholders for their dividends? |

If we are not allowed use of the Galileo PRS we should reduce the Brexit 39 billion pounds so far agreed.
Then if we can't bid to build parts etc. then we should reduce our payment even further. |

That money has nothing to do with this. It's the money we have to pay for projects etc we're committed to up to the point of leaving. It's like you saying you won't pay the mobile phone bill that you're contracted to because your TV has been removed. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Galileo PRS is a project we are committed too, and the deal was we put money in in the expectation that we would be able to use the end product. In your example we put down a deposit on the phone and now the EU is making brexit an excuse to go back on the deal. Can you explain why brexit changes our collaboration? Does the EU never collaborate with anyone outside the EU? |

We're committed to up to a point. It's an EU project. If we leave we can't have access to it. Simples.
Course the solution is not to leave ... then all would be roses again _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Looks like playing hard-ball over this issue with the EU is starting to pay off. If only we were doing this in the rest of the negotiations. |

We are playing softball, not hardball. We have 'given away' far too many things already, with the EU not appearing to give any. (OK then. Name something significant that they have then) |

Well they're unlikely to give anything that breaks the four freedoms, in the current parlance 'we can't have our cake and eat it'. That was obvious from the start but it's taken until now for our weak government to wake up to that fact. Any deal we get won't make either remainers or leavers happy, which is why the vast majority now want to vote on the deal. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

We don't want a half baked deal. We want OUT. That's what I voted for. That's what the majority voted for. That's what was on the voting form. So get out of the EU mess. |
