If you want the cameras from here, good choice, then it has to be a Garmin.
But, you need to be aware that Garmin routeing is reporting as being a bit illogical at times. It may take you off a main road for example, down a side street, then back onto the main road.
But it doesn't seem to do it for everyone.
Therefore you need to often interpret what it's trying to do and ignore some suggestions. _________________ DashCam:

That's very disappointing, what if I bought secondhand, the last model that supported the proximity alerts. ?
What model would that of been ? Please |

Try the VIA 135. It's still available from Argos for £129.99 with free lifetime Europe maps.
It's a clearance item, so probably not many left. _________________ Richard

The VIA 135 does not have Traffic does it? That is a must have for me. My 750 GO LIVE (which I love dearly) is getting slower & slower and athough I have maps etc bought up to next year it looks like I will have to get a Garmin for my next satnav.
TT state that the Traffic Receiver/Charger is still available for £40; has anyone any knowledge that this might give my required Traffic with the VIA 135?

Traffic information using a rds-tmc antenna is neither as fast nor accurate as Live Traffic.
Doesn't cover as many roads and data doesn't refresh (every 15 minutes) as does Live Traffic (every 2 min).
That said, it's better than nothing. _________________ David |

Depending on where you travel you may find the Garmin routing absolutely awful compared to the TomTom. I have given up using the Garmin in Cumbria and Cornwall due to it's love of little narrow back road "short cuts" and my preference for making progress on wider roads. Since my TomTom expired I have tried to like the Garmin, it does have many good features, but I find it's routing hopeless.
When in Cumbria or Cornwall I now use Google Maps on my phone (downloading maps for the appropriate areas in advance) because, like the old TomTom, it's routes suit me much better than the Garmin routes.
I know that this doesn't provide a solution for your problem but moving from a TomTom to a Garmin might leave you very disappointed. _________________ Paul |

I think if I needed a Garmin for navigation I'd look at a camper or truck version. Surely they avoid side roads. _________________ DashCam:

That's a good shout but we still hear of trucks getting stuck.
I don't know if anyone else has found what I have (in relation to Garmin routing) but I am continually being told to turn left into a lay-by and out again within 100 yards back on to the original road. It's not just the one lay-by, it's almost every one.
What is puzzling to me though is that some of the lay-by's used to be the original route of the roads but construction of the new roads were completed 30+ years ago! Fortunately, most are in area's of which I am familiar so I avoid them. Irritating to say the least!!! |

I 'think' the majority of truck issues is when they use car SatNavs.
I can't comment on the routeing because I use my built in for that. An old TT used to take me off a motorway then straight back on - sliproad off, sliproad on !
I did try to be clever with my Garmin once on a trip to Eastbourne. I plotted the whole route in Basecamp, tweaked it then loaded it.
Fine ..... it showed me the traffic status for the whole route, then it detected a traffic issue and diverted me and the subsequent route ignored the rest of my tweaked one so I just let it track me now which only shows traffic for a shorter distance. _________________ DashCam:

That said, it's better than nothing. | Relatively speaking it IS better than nothing. However, you can get some traffic information by simply tuning your radio into a station which broadcasts traffic information (e.g. Radio 5 Live, gives traffic info at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour) - it will be just as up to date (i.e. NOT up to date) as RDS-TMC. The only benefit TT's RDS-TMC traffic offers is the ability to re-route around a traffic problem. Back when I used it, I found it more problematic than the actual traffic and so I ignored it!
I suggest you get a TT device with lifetime traffic and maps, and then get our Cameralert for iOS or Android phone for the cameras - if you're already using it on your 750, you use your existing subscription to cover it. _________________ Dennis
