Ah, so no double bong and it boots to navigation mode.
That does indicate a Laptop issue as the PC communication isn't happening.
Looks like the SD card ploy. _________________ DashCam:

It does take quite a while to connect. 20 odd seconds is not unusual for mine to ding dong. But it gets there in the end. |

I read one article that said to remove the Laptop battery for 15 minutes because sometimes the motherboard holds corrupted settings. _________________ DashCam:

At least you don't get some idiot CS person telling you to factory reset it and to make sure that you have the latest software, even if the latest, or any version, of the software addresses the problem that you have. |

Hi Guys, Having got hold of another laptop, I found yes !, the DS61 appeared as a device and then after installing Express it also connected to that. I was well happy !!
Went out for a little test jaunt in the car to the dentist. Worked as expected other than the driver alerts being rather quiet despite 80% volume set ?.
On leaving the dentist I had a problem getting the DS powered up, anyway I did in the end and put it down to finger trouble.
Got home powered down DS had lunch then planned another jaunt but believe it or not could not get the DS powered up at all, despite plugging it back into Garmin mains charger.
Returned to store, where I was offered another, declined for now, beginning to get a bit hacked off with these units.
Luck is not on my side !!
Thanks to all for your invaluable input !! |

Just get a new one. It's a good satnav. I have had three now (long story) and none of them have given any of problems that you are having. |

Just got a DS61 here as well.
Sussed out the long recognition thing.
I tend to put my SatNavs on a mousemat, face down and plug it in. What I didn't realise is that until you take it out and get a GPS fix it will keep asking for you to accept the EULA.
Once I looked at the screen and accepted the EULA it went into PC mode and connected OK. _________________ DashCam:
