Seven new average camera systems that are being installed in Leicestershire are due to be activated in September.
The point-to-point cameras are part of a year long trial costing £500,000.
The cameras will be situated along the following stretches of road:
- B4114 Coventry Road and Leicester Road, Sharnford
- A4303 Lutterworth Road, Walcote
- A6 Harborough Road and Glen Road, Oadby
- A50 Leicester Road, Markfield Road, Bradgate Hill, Groby
- Burton Road, Measham
- Beacon Road, Woodhouse Eaves
- B676 Saxby Road, Wyfordby, Freeby
A spokesman for Leicestershire County Council commented: "We are currently working to complete the installation of the average speed cameras across the county. While some of the cameras have been installed, there is more work to be done to ensure the cameras are fully compliant and enforceable by the police."
He added: "We anticipate that enforcement for all seven sites will begin early September. When the cameras are in operation, warning signs will be displayed temporarily for motorists."
The council is looking to increase the numbers of cameras across the county after the trial, but is seeking to retain some of the money generated from fines to pay for them. Currently, fines go straight into the UK Government Treasury.
The County Council are probably playing catch up as the County is not particularly well endowed with speed cameras, The A50 Bradgate Hill, Markfield, is an especially good speed trap, fed from the M1 motorway and a good long dual carriageway all the way into Leicester, one fatal (not speed related), existing speed cam plus traffic light cam at bottom of Bradgate hill and recently reduced from 50 to 40 thruout most of its length.
The A50 is not a well populated road, with very few roads leaving off it, 2 at Markfield island which includes service roads for A50 and one at bottom of Bradgate hill (Traffic lights).
Similar situation at A6 harboro/Glen road start of dual carriageway after leaving leicesters Single carriageway leading onto Great glen Bypass, easy touch.
All the others are questionable. _________________ Moto G5s Plus, Sygic 17.4.8
