I am more concerned with the serious problem that CamerAlert is no longer sounding warnings when running in the background on iPhones. Would be interested to hear from anyone suffering the same problem. Also, I am conerned that the Forums are the only way we can report problems yet we appear to be getting zero feedback on the issue.
Does anyone have direct contact with PGSW? I hesitate to email Darren direct because the Support button specifically asks us not to do that. |

For your information I run CamerAlert on iPhone X with whatever the latest iOS is. But I only ever run it in foreground - I wouldn't know what value it would be to me because I don't ever run anything else at the same time (I park up for email checks and the only other stuff is handsfree phone calls - [which disconnects audio from the app nowadays] - and texts, which again, I park up for).
So I can't offer any information or comment on your problem, sorry, just posting to let you know some people are listening besides all the Android fans. _________________ Dennis

Yes, it works fine in the foreground, but not when running a Satnav app such as Waze. |

Not been able to try this until now, but just been out shopping and loaded CamerAlert in the background whilst running Google maps, and all appears to be working ok on my iPhone SE.
I’m getting background camera alerts and screen notifications for all types of camera as well as directions from Google maps.

My experience is that it works for a while, then stops alerting until I bring it into the foreground. Could you report back after an extended run? Would be grateful.
Also, could you check if CA appears in your list of Background App Refresh items?
Thanks

Andrew,
I'll give it a longer test tomorrow, but as you say CamerAlert does not appear in the "background app refresh" list.

Only managed a relatively short 30 mile trip today, however I did get camera reports in the background running Google maps. All fixed camera locations reported ok, as well as several ‘possible’ mobile camera positions and one ‘red light’ camera.
It doesn’t look like it missed any, but I can’t be 100% certain.

Thanks for that. One last thing: do your CamerAlert background alerts come direct from your phone speaker or via a Bluetooth speaker? I ask because my experience is that CA running in background seems to hang on longer when I don't use a Bluetooth speaker.

Hi Andrew,
I have the announcements for both Google maps and CamerAlert coming by Bluetooth through my car’s ‘Infotainment system. The car’s system mutes to allow the CamerAlert announcements.

Thanks again. I think I'll try GMaps instead of Waze and see how that goes. It sounds like everything is else is similar to your set-up in our cars. Would be grateful if you would let me know if you do find any problems/non-problems on an extended journey away from home. I would be very glad if mine ran consistently for 30 miles/more than half an hour!

Andrew, I’ll certainly post again if I encounter any of the problems you have encountered.
What I might try is using Waze as an experiment. Never used it before, and we’ll see if it makes any difference.
Incidentally do you or anyone else know if we will be able to run CamerAlert in the background whilst using Google Maps or Waze in Apple Carplay when ios12 comes along in September?
