Is there a detector that will give pre-warnings for the mobile speed camera vans ? I would really like something that can tell me a laser beam is being operated rather than a data base warning. I know that the laser detector will warn when the car is actually targeted by the mobile van but then this is too late and so the need for an earlier live detection of a laser beam ahead.
I have been told that both the Snooper4Zero and the Snooper4zero elite can do this. Is this correct?
Thanks. |

Yes, the PGPSW camera database will warn of known mobile sites.

You're correct, by the time a laser detector has detected that it (and not some other place on your car (e.g. number plate) has been targeted you have a fraction of a second to react (i.e. check your speed and slow down) that by the time you have realised that the laser detector has warned you, your speed will have been checked.
There is no point in laser detectors, apart from the academic one of informing you that you have been targeted and if you were speeding then it's too late - you were caught so expect a nice letter in a few days time!

Don't know either of them but if they are marketed as laser detectors then I guess they're good enough to tell you the you've been done!
IMO laser detectors aren't worth getting. You might as well invest the money in a decent dash cam that has GPS (for speed and location) and if you're worried that you've been caught then you can always watch the footage from the dash cam to give you an indication of your speed at the time. Plus a dash cam is useful to have in your car.
Your best form of defence against mobile cameras (vans or handheld) is the MK 1 eyeball. Keep an eye on your speedometer and be aware of your surroundings especially speed traps.

As an academic question, how would a detector work before the laser hits you?
You'd need a thingy which picks up laser beams? As an ignorant person, I thought lasers operate on line of sight, so to detect one you'd need to be in sight - that means you've been done. It ain't gonna detect round corners - or am I being thick? _________________ Dennis

That's why I asked the question, I have no idea if such a thing is possible or not. I seem to recollect reading that the van laser beams do diffuse over a distance and the 'scatter' could be detected. Could be an urban myth ! |

Urban myth to enhance the sale of laser detectors.
You can get laser jammers that work, but you end up with a much bigger fine then that of speeding. |
