Hi
My trusty old Go 940 Live is in the habit of rebooting frequently, and general quirks, and my live traffic service is coming to the point of renewal.
I was a bit tempted then to get a new one. I see "Free traffic" and I'm thinking that appeals as I don't use it much, but when I do I like the peace of mind of the traffic service.
But then I read (on here) that PGPSW camera alerts can not be installed on the newer models. So that means I'd have to pay for the TT ones? How much is that?
My favourite feature of the Go 940 is the ability for the unit to read aloud street names - this might be common now? Where it says, "Turn right into Acme Place", etc.
Is it time to switch away from TomTom? Garmin maybe? Any suggestions where I can have traffic and street names read aloud?
Thank ye! |

Most Garmins pronounce street names and also give real directions, so you'll get instructions like 'turn right at the traffic lights'. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

...and the LMT-D units have live up to date traffic, updated every minute. _________________ DashCam:

"rebooting frequently" could possibly just mean you need to run clearflash.exe (3 times allowing & reboot between each run) and also it speeds things up if you cut back on the number of POIs selected too. http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6178/kw/clearflash/sno/1
The 940 Live is a damned good device worth trying to maintain. |

Thank you all, I’m learning more! Much appreciated. Never heard of the clear flash |

My new(ish) TT GO6200 reboots occasionally - but only when it's switched on and I'm driving - so I lose its functions until it finishes rebooting, awkward.
It has lifetime maps, Traffic and cameras - the cameras are pretty poor, not up to date, - they'll add roadworks cameras just as they are being removed and keep them on for ages after they've gone, awkward. I use CamerAlert on my iPhone now for ease of use and updates - it'll use your existing subscription. _________________ Dennis

Agree with DennisN that CamerAlert in combination with 6200 is not a bad combination and it looks as if TT don't want to address the POI issue/management on NAV 5 devices.
Only downside I have with CamerAlert on my iPhone 6 is that audio alerts are lost after a phone call but that could be the specifics on my phone and hands free system. |

No it’s not your setup. Losing audio like that has been a fault for a very long time I’m afraid. Another one has come up now with night view, an alert blacks out the screen until I pass the camera. I simply can’t use CamerAlert on iPhone X after dark. [/img] _________________ Dennis

Thanks for that DennisN.
I also get the black screen at night (since iOS 11 I think) so just run with 'night mode' off and the brightness turned down which works for me. |

Do you get the other new one? When making a report on a camera, tap to add a voice note and it crashes. _________________ Dennis

Wasn't aware of that DennisN but do see the same thing with the app closing. |
