|
|
I've got an old 740 GO Live which had the maps updated recently.
It's in full working order except the mount. Basically the rubber window disc has split and torn away from the rest of the mount base. New x40 Live mounts are £40 used on eBay as the units have a non standard dock connector.
Using Mikes guide
https://www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtom-go-x40-mount-disassembly.php I have separated the dock connector from the ball mount arm.
I'm looking for a cheap replacement for the ball mount arm.
The ball on this mount is approx. 15.55mm diameter. I'm hoping to get a another ball mount arm to attach to my working dock connector so the unit can be used / sold.
Do other cheaper TomTom mounts use the same size ball? If so i can buy a cheap one, dismantle it and repair the broken mount. Something like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Suction-Cup-Mount-Holder-Bracket-Cradle-for-GPS-Tom-Tom-One-XL-XL-S-XL-T-/131906784147
Or maybe another brand - Garmin etc?? |

Hi PaulB2005. I only have a bog standard tape measure to hand but I have just measured an original basic windscreen suction mount for a TT920. The ball measures between 15 and 16mm diameter, so it looks good. The ball is rubberised.
I am back in the Uk mid May, if it helps I could then post you an unopened, unused original replacement which TT sent me a few years ago? _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Well it worked.
Just needed the hole at the rear of the conector opening up slightly and all clips together.
The original ball is rubber as AliOnHols said which means the TT ball can squeeze through the hole. The Garmin ball is hard plastic so the hole needs to be opened up slightly.
Otherwise it's holding on my window just fine now. |

That's good to hear, I'm glad that it worked out well. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599
