It's been known for a while that the latest Hadecs3 cameras also send out NIP's for 71+
It's been over a decade since the law forced manufacturers to ensure that speedos over read so there is no excuse. _________________ DashCam:

Your words are misleading as there is no 71mph or higher official speed limit.
The Police guidelines for speeding prosecution to start are usually speed limit +10% +1-2mph, so in a 70mph limit you can expect a fine and points for 78+mph. _________________ GO 620, Tomtom Android EU,

Perhaps you are not keeping up with stuff. A top cop wants motorists to be NIPed when 1MPH over the limit rather than the ACPO recommendation of 10% + 2MPH (Yes, two, not one or two) so it's 79MPH in a 70 zone and it's only a recomendation, forces do not have to abide by it so can issue NIPs at 71 if that's how they feel.
Kremmen's words are not at all misleading as if top cop has his way, NIPs will be regularly issued at 71MPH in a 70MPH limit.
But having said that, I wonder if the people who say that Hadecs 'issue' NIPS for 71+ MPH have any positive proof of that, or is it just another urban myth?
The Derbyshire link talks about top speed of 128MPH but does not say what the lowest excess speed was. So that article does not lend itself to 'prove' the case. All it says is that they will enforce the 70MPH (probably, at present. at 79MPH) limit as well as the slower 'smart' speeds when it has been assumed (again with no proof) that most gantry cameras only enforced the reduced 'smart' speed limit. |

I always understood that the % allowance was a 'guideline' for traffic patrols.
Now that these Hadecs have proved to be super accurate some want them to enforce accurately.
With car speedos now over reading if you're caught doing a true 71 then your speedo is likely showing over 75 so you have no real excuse. _________________ DashCam:

ACPO recommendations are HERE and below is an extract as published by the CPS.
Quote: |
Speed Enforcement
The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) issued revised speed enforcement policy guidance in 2013. It suggests that enforcement will normally occur when a driver exceeds the speed limit by a particular margin. The particular margin is normally 10 per cent over the speed limit plus 2 mph. The guidance sets guidelines for when it would be appropriate to issue a fixed penalty notice or for the driver to attend a speed awareness course, and when it becomes appropriate to issue a summons. These are guidelines only and a police officer has discretion to act outside of them providing he acts fairly, consistently and proportionately. {my emboldening}
In summary the guidelines are:
Speed limit: 20 mph
ACPO threshold for:
a fixed penalty or a Speed Awareness course: 24 mph
summoning: 35 mph
Speed limit: 30 mph
ACPO threshold for:
a fixed penalty or a Speed Awareness course: 35 mph
summoning: 50 mph
Speed limit: 40 mph
ACPO threshold for:
a fixed penalty or a Speed Awareness course: 46 mph
summoning: 66 mph
Speed limit: 50 mph
ACPO threshold for:
a fixed penalty or a Speed Awareness course: 57 mph
summoning: 76 mph
Speed limit: 60 mph
ACPO threshold for:
a fixed penalty or a Speed Awareness course: 68 mph
summoning: 86 mph
Speed limit: 70 mph
ACPO threshold for:
a fixed penalty or a Speed Awareness course: 79 mph
summoning: 96 mph | That is unequivocal government statement, but is only the ACPO recommendations and there is nothing there about NIPs for 71MPH in a 70MPH limit. So ends the lecture and hopefully to dispel all the urban myths. |

These recommendations and guidelines are the reason for all the arguments and bad blood over speeding.
You see a speed limit sign which says 30, so you tell yourself to drive at 35 and you'll still be ON the limit and free from NIP. So the argument revolves around whether or not you were exceeding the speed limit, or exceeding it by how much and whether the how much is the right amount.
Personally I have always considered the guidelines to be ridiculous - if the speed limit is 30, driving faster than that is punishable and there should be no argument about it. Zero tolerance, end of story. Driving at 30-ish is a laugh! The limit is 70mph, so don't drive any faster than that and don't come the arguments about it being safe to drive at 90 or 100 on a spiritually empty motorway, or to drive at 50 through a deserted village.
So let's drive INSIDE the posted speed limits.
And if you think that's too slow, get up a movement, petition, whatever, to get the government (or the local council) to change them to what you say the right limit should be. Surely it won't be difficult to persuade people if you're right? _________________ Dennis

You should know that to convince people that you are right and they are wrong is exceedingly difficult, even if you are right. Which in the case of the majority of speed limits, 'they' are right. |

I remember when the M25 ones were trialled, they were almost continually flashing, but they seem to have stopped being as regular now, but speeds appear just as they used to be. If 71mph is being enforced (big publicity campaign about it, but was it fake news?), the flashes obviously aren't working on the M1 & M6 as I am still being made to look as though I am travelling in reverse!
I am also wondering how you would appeal one now considering they don't need to have lines painted on the road any more? Befroe it is pretty easy for someone to prove a speed between markings, I suppose you would have to count the time between potholes _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 51 LMT-D Europe |

They have always been able to do that, but it appears that up 'till now they chose not to. |
