|
|
Nearly six years ago we launched our Mobile POI site for smartphones to easily find points of interest around you and also to submit them on the go. In recent months the functionality had stopped as most common browsers would not share your location over an 'insecure' website. It's taken a lot of work behind the scenes but we are now pleased to announce that the mobile POI site is now using secure HTTPS and is fully operational again!
So, head over to pocketgpsworld.com/mobilepoi to see what POIs are near you and get submitting any missing places.
On top of this we are busily working away behind the scenes to get the whole site running over HTTPS. As you can imagine, with over 16 years of PocketGPSWorld.com numerous 'admin' set-ups, page templates/themes, link formats, database systems, modified CMS's and thousands upon thousands of pages it is quite a task. We're nearly reaching the final phase of testing and once ready all visits will automatically use HTTPS.
Thanks for your patience!

Hi MaFt,
Many thanks to everybody involved for doing this. Over the years I've found the PocketGPSWorld Mobile POI site to be invaluable so it's great to be able to use it once again.
List only navigation apps that are installed on smartphone?
Is it possible to for the code of the Mobile POI site to be able to interrogate the smartphone to determine which (if any) navigation apps are installed and therefore should be shown to be chosen from to launch with the details of the POI sent as a destination?
I know that this question has been asked before and that the answer was no, but I'm wondering whether advancement of HTML and/or other code could over come this or whether a small handling app for iOS, Android, and other platforms could be written to determine the navigation apps for the Mobile POI site to send to?
Add addition navigation apps to Mobile POI site?
There is a generic URL Scheme for the old TomTom legacy apps, which are no longer supported. However I have two of those apps, which I still regularly use: UK & Ireland; and Europe. Is it possible to have those two added?
TomTom UK & Ireland, example URL Scheme
Code: | com.tomtom.UK-Ireland://geo:action=navigateto&lat=53.79073&long=-1.75909&name=test |
TomTom Europe, example URL Scheme
Code: | com.tomtom.Europe://geo:action=navigateto&lat=48.86870&long=2.78181&name=Disneyland%20Paris |
There are more TomTom URLs but unfortunately, I don't know any more.

This can't be done via a website. Security reasons.

I'll look into updating the apps in the list. There may be some that don't even exist anymore... |

Unfortunately I added a poi and now realise I’ve put it in the wrong place. Is there any way to edit/delete my submission?

Thank you Richard. I went back in to the app to get the coords and thought I’d gone mad, as it was all fixed .
Now seeing that you sorted out my “faux pas” my sanity has been restored !.
Cheers
