Gave the app a test run and the initial thoughts were it looks good and probably worth the £42 for lifetime (during the offer period, approximately £70 outside of this), but these thoughts soon changed.

The voice directions kept cutting out and missing the ending of what it was supposed to say.

The routing looks fine but is same as the pnd's so not as good as tomtom routing.

The audio alerts for speed cameras, etc are poor and the information stated on the website bears no resemblance to the information on android in relation to cameras. Is the website geared to promoting the iphone version only.... You are better of using CamerAlert running in the background.

No notification of traffic incidents or delays displayed while driving, you just hear the device quietly saying rerouting due to traffic updates.

The warning beep, is poor and someone could have come up with something better, as just sounds like an old analogue phone ringing.

The searching for a location is the same as Sygic where you can't paste a destination in, but searching for a poi was quite fast and it did show the correct results, unlike Sygic and TomTom.

Overall for the length of time Navigon have been going and the fact they are owned by Garmin, I would have expected better from the app for the pricing even at the reduced cost. At the moment I can't recommend the app at this reduced cost, and definitely not recommended at the £70+ mark (yes you may get free updates, traffic and cameras but the likes of Sygic and TomTom both provide this at a lower price), and for free alternatives use Warez or Google...

Unless it has changed in the last year, you can't add your own POIs.

I've had it years and got all the extras I want so cost doesn't come into it for me!

However there are serious problems with the maps since it changed to Here and those on my 2013 updated Navigon 4350max PND are sometimes better for UK!

If I were starting again I won't bother with using a dedicated App and just use Google Maps (and pay for '3' network access as Hutchison own networks in Europe, most of Asia, and Australia and give cheap access there especially if taking a pre-paid UK deal).

I don't like built-in car satnavs as I much prefer to plan my routes in the comfort of my living room but one will come with my new car in March so we shall see if I change my tune! (See my avatar for picture.)

the new product is an all-in-one solution for new users - you pay the £70+ (£43 while on offer) to get lifetime updates for maps, traffic and cameras, but when you compare it to the tomtom mobile app, it falls very short for the price - ie 3 years with TT while they had the offer = £21 which includes the maps, traffic and camera.

It's the same for Sygic, you can get lifetime use with maps, traffic and cameras for less than £20 and this uses the tomtom services.

Both apps are far better than the solution provided by Navigon/Garmin and with the prices they are charging for this app that feels unfinished, you better of getting a dedicated PND
