This is not strictly a speed camera story - it was the evidence of speeding on an in-car camera that helped in this particular prosecution. An own goal if you like.
Following a case of speeding dating back to 2015, a Singapore court has just ordered that a 630,000SGD (£350,000) Lamborghini be seized by the state.
Traffic police were conducting an operation to detect illegal street racing when approximately 20 high-performance cars arrived in the area.
The officers then witnessed a twenty-four year old Indonesian, Kevin Pratama Chandra in a Lamborghini racing a Nissan GT-R.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Tan Zhongshan said: "The in-car camera in the Nissan GT-R showed that its speed was 219kmh (136mph), which exceeded the speed limit of 60kmh. The Lamborghini was travelling at a similar speed."
Earlier this year, Chandra pleaded guilty and was jailed for two weeks, fined 1,500SGD (£840) and received a ban for 18 months. There were two other similar charges brought against him.
The Nissan's driver was also jailed for two weeks. Additionally, he was fined 2,500SGD (£1,400) and disqualified from driving for 18 months. The car, which belonged to his wife, was also seized.
Seized cars in Singapore can be scrapped or auctioned off - I think that this particular one may fall into the latter category!

I realise this is an extreme case but they should do similar here.
More than 30mph over the limit and you lose your car, mandatory. _________________ DashCam:

Its how the Dutch traffic police ended up with cars like Porsche 911 targas in the 1980's. The Germans used to cross the borders without slowing down and get done and their cars confiscated. |

I really do hope that you never slip past a foliage covered speed limit sign up here in North Yorkshire, which believe me if you are not local it's very easy to do. In fact may be I don't.
Irresponsible driving should be punished, no argument, but please think about the unforeseen circumstances before you give the authorities any further cash collecting ideas. |

So in doing that you'll also have slipped past all the speed limit signs then? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

In many cases the signs are at junctions where the motorists attention is mostly concentrating on navigating without a collision, then add that signs out of the towns and cities are often missing or hidden it is easy to do especially if the camera is just after the change and before any repeaters or obvious street furniture. |

You mean the ones covered by tree branches etc. at the entry to the speed limit. Then yes those are the ones I do meam.
I can't comment about your area but I have seen the new small camera vans sat in farm accesses only metres inside limits on rural roads where there are no other indications other than a moss covered road sign almost obliterated by trees and high hedges. Our highway authorities are somewhat strapped for cash so the maintenance of these signs is very low on their priority list.
Before you ask I don't own a £350k Lambo but I would be very annoyed to lose what I do have for a few metres of road. I can think of a number of locations near me that have speed limits are so far outside the property limits that there are no other indications that a limit other than the national one would exist, but the revenue collectors know where they are. If you are ever in the area have a look. |

I did qualify what I posted by stating '30mph over the limit'
We all are guilty of the occasional 'creep' but 30mph over the prevailing limit means you shouldn't be on the road. IMO. _________________ DashCam:

If that is the case you have a defence against any speeding fine, but I've never (yet) driven past a speed camera where both it and the speed limit signs were obscured. In any case it should be fairly obvious (even without signs) if you're driving 30mph over the limit at that point. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Ahh, but at 30 mph over the limit, looking around for road signs and cameras is far too dangerous _________________ Galaxy Note 4 / TomTom GO : CamerAlert : CoPilot |

Apparently, in Australia, if you're caught doing 45kmh over the limit you lose your car for 30 days. _________________ DashCam:
