Over 200 speeding drivers were caught in just three hours during a clampdown by Staffordshire Police.

Three speed camera vans were used to catch motorists across three roads in Stourton, Staffordshire.

All those caught face a minimum £100 fine and three penalty points - unless it's their first offence when they will be offered to pay £100 to attend a speed awareness course.

The head of justice services at Staffordshire Police, commented: "Unfortunately sometimes education is not enough and so we are forced to punish those who flout our speed limits. It's astonishing that in just three hours our camera team identified over 200 drivers breaking the speed limit, but hopefully those who have been caught will now think again in future."

They added: "As it is Road Victims Awareness Month, it's pertinent that we focus on road safety and do all we can to prevent dangerous actions like speeding. Breaking the speed limit increases your chances of being in an accident which could lead to the death or serious injury of you, your passengers and those in nearby vehicles."

Luvvly Jubbly, make the roads safer Very Happy

Will they slow down though, or, are they better drivers than the set speed limit.

At least we can't complain that speed cameras are a waste of money - £20,000 in 3 hours is quite a decent return.

Do you agree with ALL of the speedlimits you see (I certainly do not). If so why do you think we need to be made to go so slowly?

The one I struggle with the most (and tend to ignore the most) is 70mph on the motorways - simply too slow for modern cars - and contrary to plenty of other nations. Even USA is now seeing 85mph freeways in Texas. Now we have SMART (but dumb) motorways - when traffic is light there is NO REASON to have such a low and outdated limit.

Other roads seem to be getting slower for no reason too... its a bit really

I'm happy with 70. Whilst braking disfances are shorter driving distractions are more and thinking distances have probably increased.

I tend to do 60 on motorways anyway, in with the trucks. I'm in no rush.

When you get caught, use this argument in court as a defence.

How many other limits do you disagree with? Alcohol, drugs, phone whilst drinking? Sugar in fizzy drinks? In order for society to run relatively smoothly, there have to be rules which "limit" general behaviour. Otherwise, anarchy. If you don't agree with a rule or limit, start a campaign to get it changed, go into politics to set up your own set of rules. Ignore the speed limits and hopefully you'll get caught one day, then the rest of us will be able to rely on all other drivers obeying the law, one less behaviour we have to watch out for.

Yet another pretty predictable anti speed limit rant from Davidonly. HERE. HERE HERE HERE HERE HERE
The list goes on and on. Rolling Eyes
C'mon David, for goodness sake give us a break and stop your constant trolling against speed limits et. al. We are all fully aware of your total contempt for any law that restricts your personal lawless attitude and behaviour. Shocked

Actually, he's only made 46 posts, compared to your 3,900. The difference is he posts about the wickedness and iniquity of speed limits every time (or almost every time). In the interests of pedantry, you have probably made as many comments about speed limits as he has and I must have made at least twice as many as he has. But then, I live in a glass house. Well, actually I don't, I have one at the side, but it's got polycarbonate stuff, rather than glass. But it is useful for substantiating myths about stones with moss on them.

Can't be bothered with his rants now. Sooner or later his driving will end up with him killing himself or others since he seems to have a total disregard for anyone setting speed limits but himself. Seen others with that attitude and ended up clearing up the mess they create.

I would like to know if the locations were on the database?

That's all I really care about with regard to this service.

Thanks Smile

Regarding 70mph :

Actually I think 85 is about right (balance of progress v fuel stops) - and ANY speed above 2mph is potentially dangerous (even 2 mph is) so VARY your speed according to what you can see. Its called the limiting point. Have you heard of it?

I am engaging again.. oh well in for a penny.....

It's a question of how speed limits are set. Firstly many years ago they were invented not set and are now being lowered for very dubious reasons. I and MANY others question the motives and the balance of risks being skewed as they are, the DATA is available but 'THEY' choose to use dogma instead.

Oh and FYI in most 30 mph zones - I never exceed (or often never even reach) the 'limit'. I do make exceptions for wide DC's. I accept that NOISE is a factor in built up places and tend to keep things sensible regardless of conditions in those situations too (see NSL villages - I didn't EVER need that new 40mph sign to slow for a dwelling in the countryside).

I think a bit of 'leaping to conclusions' is at work here. How considerate of you considerate socially minded folks.

I truly believe I can judge this better than someone who is not actually present and probably never was, at a given place who thinks they can control things wielding a pen or an email account. The safe speed varies considerably. We need to escape the death grip of socialism and the nanny state (this is an example of a lot pf mindless compliance - yes my fellow posters - I mean YOU)

C'mon THINK for yourself!

Or we are all doomed.
