Anyone else getting any issues with the PGPSW POI website and an iPhone?

iPhone 6S

All works ok for Manual Location Search but for the last 2-3 weeks the Automatic Location Search is not working...

Unable to automatically find your location Please try Manual Search

All other GPS based stuff works.
Checked location settings for safari
Deleted all cookies and data from safari.
Restarted phone.....

iPhone (and Chrome for that matter) won't share location details with a non-https site....

+1 Thumbs Up

Access to Location services has been removed from non secure web sites in IOS 10 and OXS Sierra, i.e. some time ago. So people who use iOS 10 or OXS Sierra to access the PGPSW Mobile POI site to search for a POI to navigate to, will get the text "Unable to automatically find your location. Please try a manual search".

HTTPS is the way to go forward. Wink

I run my own e-commerce website and changed to all HTTPS a few months ago because any page that contains a log in field under HTTP will throw an insecure item error in Firefox, and Chrome complains even more vigorously. In my opinion the commonly held view that using an encrypted service i.e. HTTPS with an SSL certificate results in a slower page load is no longer valid as connection speeds have increased and processors in phones and tablets are now so much faster that the difference is negligible.

That's not something PGPSW have ever said. My personal opinion (and I'm not one of the directors so I have no power over any of this) is that it would be a mammoth task to check tens of thousands of pages to make sure links and logins etc all still work correctly... However, it's becoming more and more important as time goes on and I've previously added my vote to the SSL camp. But don't blame me, I just work here Wink

Doesn’t the PGPSW website use relative URLs for internal links instead of absolute URLs?

As a temporary measure, could you set up another domain e.g. https://www.pgpswpoi.com and then copy the code for the POI part of this website and then synch the POI database here with the new domain?

Regards,

As mentioned before - you need to be checking with Mike, Rob and Darren. I've already mentioned it but it's their decision at the end of the day Smile
