Average speed cameras are set to replace the fixed cameras on the A3 Esher Bypass in Surrey.
The point-to-point digital cameras will supersede the old wet film ones on the 50mph northbound carriageway.
The Highways Agency started work earlier this week and the cameras are likely to be operational from late spring following a test period.
A Highways Agency spokesman commented: "Average speed check signage will be installed at the entry point to the enforced section and additional repeater 'camera' signs will be installed along the length of the enforced section to remind drivers".

Last weekend there were signs saying they were active. In the first week of operation the A3 on that section has been closed twice for extensive periods due to serious collisions. Only driven it once but people i know who use it more often say there is a lot of panic braking as people realise they can no longer motor on up to the old Gatso at 70+ mph. |
