Well my new Driveluxe appears to be faulty. If I try to connect it to my PC, I either get a warning that it's trying to use too much power or it just goes dim with Garmin Express on the screen and then when I unplug it, it restarts and asks me for my country etc again. Also, it isn't discoverable by Garmin Express. Thoughts? |

Ensure its fully charged. You might also find your USB port isn't supplying enough power, try other ones on your PC if you can or use a powered hub.
Note if you haven't fully charged it, and a USB port won't do that, plug it into your car or a mains charger if you have one. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Yes, I'd thought about that so I charged it for a couple of hours from a power supply first and it now shows a full battery symbol. I've also tried using different USB leads, including the one supplied and I've also tried using a USB 3 hub and also a USB 3 outlet on the PC's main unit, but no joy so far. I think I'll have to phone Garmin in the morning and see what they have to say, but this doesn't seem right to me as surely it shouldn't be this difficult to get it to work. |

Re-reading your first post and now your last have you allowed your device to get a satellite lock? You shouldn't be asked to re-input your country again unless you haven't allowed that to happen? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Well that's two units that folks have had issues with. Still not clear to me whether the issue is with the unit or the PC they're being connected to _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

In my case, I'm pretty confident it's the unit as I've had several Garmins before, including this model, which I tried out last year without any problems.
When the unit arrived, it wouldn't even switch on until I had charged it for a while from a mains charger. Also, I've never seen a message before about a USB device trying to use too much power, which is why I tried my USB 3 ports as well (direct and via a hub). Although those didn't display the power warning, the display on the Garmin still went dim (with the Garmin Express message on screen) after about 20-30 seconds of plugging it in. When the unit restarted, it was once again asking for my country (maybe because I hadn't taken it outside to find satellites) and the changes I had made to the settings (such as proximity alerts) had all been reset. |

That's definitely linked to not having got a satellite fix. I suggest that when your new one arrives you first of all ensure it is fully charged. Then ensure you take it outside and get a satellite fix before you do anything else. I know it's tempting to want to switch it on and play with it but that's not the best way to proceed.
There are also two differences between the newer and older Garmins that might explain the issue here. First, batteries don't last as long, so it's more important than before you keep them charged. Second, they require more power from the USB ports than in the past, and there are numerous reports of issues during updating software/maps due to devices shutting down so it's more important than ever that you heed the instructions given by Garmin to ensure the battery is fully charged before you attempt an update.
Hopefully your new device won't have any problems and you'll be able to confirm all is well _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Perhaps cottonsocks could try your suggestions on the original one before he returns it to confirm/deny your suggestions for the benefit of others. |

OK thanks. I'll try that and I'll use my spare USB 3 port as that should provide more power. |
