|
|
I am thinking of getting one of the new Garmin sat navs when they are released (supposed to be the first quarter of 2017 but there’s less than two weeks of that if they are to meet their advertised deadline). I have my eye on three models, the DriveLuxe LMT-D 51, the DriveAssist LMT-D 51 and the DriveSmart 61 LMT-D but I’m not sure which one I’ll go for just yet.
Has anyone made a direct comparison between the displays of the DriveLuxe series and the other units, especially in bright daylight? Also, how easy (or not) is the window/dashboard mount to engage and disengage from the sat nav (I know the DriveLuxe models have magnetic mounts). What about the dashcam models – do they work well or are there any annoying problems with them? Finally, the larger size – would you say the larger units are better or worse than the 5-inch models and if so, why?
Many thanks. |

I have just ordered a DriveSmart 61 LMT-D from Amazon and it's due to be delivered early next week. I will let you know what I think. _________________ Dave R (h5djr)

TBH, if it has no third party camera support I'm no longer interested. _________________ DashCam:

I've just sent an e-mail to Garmin UK. I'll post their reply when it comes back. |

I picked up a DriveLuxe 51 last week and it is almost the same as the DriveLuxe 50 that I have, so I am sure the others you mention will be very similar to the 2016 range, if you've seen / had a chance to 'play' with those.
There are some great end-of-line deals to be had on the 2016 Range at the moment. I'd be tempted to go for one of those rather than the newer model - which for the DriveLuxe 50 is over £100 saving on the nearly identical (except for Wi-Fi) DriveLuxe 51.
The models you list all have different features / functions but the powered magnetic mount is a real winner in my book. _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.80

just noticing the price difference on halfords and agree you may as well get the 2016 model unless you specifically require wifi updating, but if you have a computer and want to use the pgpsw cameras on it then 2016 model is way to go for pricing |

Have you managed to load the cameras via POILoader ? _________________ DashCam:

Not yet as I am running it in parallel with my DriveLuxe 50 - won't be able to until much later this week but I am intrigued to try it out to see what happens. _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.80

Just had a response back from Garmin. Here it is, word for word...
Dear Brian,
Thank you for your enquiry.
Unfortunately we will not be able to answer that, while third party software/information is not blocked it is not actively supported by Garmin, the only assistance we are able to provide with regard to this is troubleshooting is limited to:
° Updating system software with Garmin Express
° Ensuring that the included Garmin maps, accessories, or software are working properly
° If a similar product made by Garmin is available, recommend that as a possible alternative
For assistance with anything outside of the items above, the customer should be referred back to the third-party company that created the product they wish to use.
If a device is damaged through use of third-party maps, software, or accessories it is not covered under the Garmin Warranty.
Kind regards,
Jack

Whatever it was it doesn't say 3rd party speed camera files won't work, which is really all we need to find out. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |
