So I updated my GO520 (that's the OLD GO520 that works, not the new GO520 that doesn't) in less than quarter of an hour.
Then I turned to my super duper GO6100, with all the new bells and whistles which don't ring or squeal. I did three quarters of an hour last night, being required to input my password six times. All to no avail, so I gave up. Began again at 7:50am this morning - it's now 9:56am and I got some progress after restarting and rebooting. After more than two hours, it's showing 38% done. In less than two hours, I have to go out and drive to somewhere new 100 miles away. Congratulations again TomTom! _________________ Dennis

Just to think, we used to consider TT Home a poor bit of software. Now we have the new improved Connect!!
And by the way, the postcode file is still wrong, judging by the one on my GO520 (the old GO520 that works) - anybody wants to visit the BBC's Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff should not rely on TT to find CF10 4GA. _________________ Dennis

MDC connect is pretty poor interface. The speed and ease of use updating to UK maps v985 on my Go 6100 & 6200 was chalk and cheese.
Direct wifi updates is a big plus for 6200 IMO, shame about restricted POI use currently. |

I downloaded and installed v985 last week, and today I received an email from TomTom saying my map was out of date, and offering me v990! The price is £39:95, even though I have lifetime maps with my device. |

That is truly bizarre! There is no 990 yet and won't be till May. Talk about a marketing screw up! _________________ David |

I've had an email dated 8/3 telling me that there's a map update for my lifetime service (which it also tells me ends in 2023). No version number given but on connecting I'm told that 9.85 does not need updating. |

As usual it's TT EVENTUALLY getting round to emailing customers about new maps when they've been out now 3 weeks already! |

Apparently there are some v986 maps imminent (which probably means corrections to errors in the previously released 985_8155/8157 versions):-
Africa_986_8219
Europe_986_8218
Europe_Central_986_8218
Europe_East_986_8218
Europe_North_986_8218
Europe_South_986_8218
Europe_West_986_8218
Poland_986_8219
so if you already have the 985_8155/8157 version of these specific maps, keep checking via TTHome as I doubt that the TT forum will bother to make an announcement any time soon
Plus also the long awaited and overdue Europe_Truck_986_8184 is imminent too! |

TT's reasons/excuses for releasing 986 maps (apart from the always-late Europe_Truck map)....?
Poland map for Carminat to fix a compatibility issue
(same excuse/reason why they released the new 986 Africa map too I guess although they've not even mentioned that one in their forum!)
Re-sized zones for Europe map for devices with 1 GB memory*
* Even though map updates can no longer be purchased for these devices, there are still some customers who have an active Map Update Service and we've decided to reduce the mapzone size (less countries) to make it easier to use the map on these devices.
Files for voice recognition and some (additional) POI information was removed from the zones to reduce the size. |

From another forum:-
"I've compared the new maps to the old ones: All of the new 986-Europe-zone-maps are identical, same file size and file content of all files.
The new 986-Polish Carminat map doesn't have an older 985 equivalent, it is really new.
The only map with a different size is the new Africa_986_8219"
So their statement "we've decided to reduce the mapzone size (less countries) to make it easier to use the map on these devices" is yet another LIE!
I just hope that either their forum admin/mods read this and act accordingly or it's highlighted there (by someone who's not already been banned for speaking the truth there!) |

Probably only if it's been reported/noted between 6 & 9 months ago! |
