Can anybody recommend a dash camera that also has speed camera warnings/locations, I'm on a limited budget so under £100 would good
Also free speed camera updates would be ideal
I have used a tomtom in the past but have in car nav now ( can't put cameras on ! )
Don't want to waste money buying something that's not very good
Thanks. ( needs to work with a MAC ) |

CORRECTION
Reading the write-up, it seems that the speed cameras are free updates, no subscription required. _________________ Dennis

I've had a look on the proofcam ( rac ) web site the 05 seems to be what I'm looking for, my only concern is the disclaimer saying they reserve the right to stop supplying the speed camera data at any time ! Would I be able to source the updates direct from gpsworld if that were to happen? (With a subscription if required) as the camera data is the only reason I would buy the dash cam
Thanks |

I would guess that they convert the data into their own proprietary format, so probably not.
If you have a smartphone or iPhone you'd be better off on them for speed cameras (requires subscription, but the App is free) and get a cheapo dashcam from your local garage or Lidl/Aldi. _________________ Dennis

Thanks for the quick response, I already have a dash cam (g1w )which I leave in the car , with the wiring tucked out of sight I wanted something I could just forget about and it would just "work"
I have the camera alert app on my I phone already ( subscription lapsed) but with the new laws regarding touching a phone whilst driving I would prefer not to do it that way |

One finger touch starts CamerAlert before I drive off and it runs all day long without further touches in a dash mounted cradle. Steering wheel button to answer and end hands free phone calls Bluetooth to vehicle loudspeakers. _________________ Dennis

Thanks for your input Dennis , although I've had camera alert app on my phone I've never actually used it ( having tomtom devices ) I'll give it a try this weekend (with out of date cameras ) to see how it works , before subscribing again, it should still pick up old camera locations ( that have been there for a long time ) it may well be ok for me
Thanks |

I switched from Pgpsw cameras on TomTom satnavs when they brought out the iPhone version. It was good on TT, but a whole new thing on iPhone (same functionality on Android phones too). _________________ Dennis

Make sure you run CA for at least half an hour.
I've had 2 phones that complain about continual GPS use and they get very hot. As a result CA froze.
Maybe just a HTC thing. _________________ DashCam:

I could recommend the MIO Mivue 618 it has lifetime free updates for speedcams plus red light cams it costs £99 so just a tad under your budget. I have used the older version (mio 538) which was brilliant, but upgraded to the 618 for its features and wider video angle (140 as to the 518 130) it has free upgrade and the picture and gps locking are superb. It has several functions you may not use or are not really applicable, I don't use the lane depart , collision warning etc. but I do use the lights on warning function. It is gps enabled and power up function . The video quality is the best ive seen and with in cab sound recording could be an argument for divorce. It records in HD+ and with a 128gb sd card can record for over 16hrs continuous. I think its still available at certain Maplins or Currys or direct via their Mio website. Hope this helps. |

Thanks Bill , I'm still trying to give my iPhone a chance , but the only car mount I had turned out to be too "wobbly" and felt unsafe , i have a new one coming in the next day or so, but i will look at the MIO once I've tried my phone
I think I will have to mount any camera at the bottom R/H side of the windscreen , as theres not enough space to the right side of the rear view mirror,
to be able to see the camera screen [for the warnings ] does the MIO have voice warnings ?
thanks
