|
|
I have just purchased the above device and have been reading the post "PGPSW Cameras to Garmin (Spoon Feed Version)", (could it be made a sticky?) and have some questions.
1. Regarding the Garmin cameras. As this is the first download will the "Remove all previously installed custom POIs from your device" remove the Garmin speed camera database?
2. Are the warning distances automatically altered relevant to the speed or are they at standard distance from every camera. I had to set them individually when I had a Tomtom.
3. On subsequent PGPSW updates do I have to use POI loader each time or can I just copy and paste as I do with the TT.
Hope you can help a newbie to Garmin. Many thanks

1) Yes that will remove the Cyclops trial. Cut and paste to the PC if you want to keep it.
2) Garmin set all distances to 36 secs at the prevailing speed, hence the CSV to GPX Converter
3) Yep, POIloader each time, but it only takes seconds to run once you have the cams unzipped. _________________ Satnav:

Garmin do it differently but once you've got it working once it's childs play each week and only takes a minute or 2. _________________ Satnav:

I have now installed the PGPSW cameras on the Garmin and it said when using the POI that 17110 files had been installed but it also said in the box below "Unable to covert..........file name" several times over. I have a .gpi file of 4.3mb but cannot open it as it doesn't know what to open it with. Is there any way to see if it is all working correctly without physically driving past the cameras?
Many thanks

That error message means you didn't follow the spoon feed exactly (sox.exe)
Yes you can check cameras by setting a route then switch the unit to 'gps simulation' mode.

I have the sox.exe in the POI loader file as shown on the spoon feed topic. When I was using POI loader it came up with a warning that the publisher could not be verified, and wouldn't run until I clicked on the X to get rid of it, then it carried on. Cannot see where I have gone wrong despite rereading the topic |

Never known POIloader to produce an unknown publisher error. That occurs when a program isn't registered with Verisign which POILoader is. What's your OS?
Maybe uninstall it and reinstall it using Admin priveleges although not normally required. _________________ Satnav:

RichardM wrote: | but it also said in the box below "Unable to covert..........file name" several times over. | But what were the filenames that it faild to convert. If they were .WAVs then it's definitely a sox.exe problem. And if they were MP3s, you have downloaded the wrong voice set. But like Kremmen says, you should not have a problem either installing or running POILoader.
Sox.exe does not go in the POILoader file, it goes in the same folder in which poiloader.exe is installed and NOT your PoiLoader working folder (which is the common mistake ppl make). Typically this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\POI Loader (for a 64 bit computer).
Even if you could open the .gpi file, unless you are a black belt in that sort of thing, it's extremely unlikely that you could make head or tail of it anyway. You can open it in a text editor, but good luck with that. |

I am using win 7. I don't know what the file names were as I didn't scroll to the end of the file name. The PGPSW speed files I download were .bmp .csv and .wav. The sox.exe file is shown as being in the POI loader folder as per the "PGPSW Cameras to Garmin (Spoon Feed Version)" illustratioin. The interesting thing is that when you click on properties on the sox.exe file it says "This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect the computer" with an unblock box next to it. Should I click this "unblock" box? |

Yes.
If it's blocked it won't work and POILoader will probably give the error that you got.
Still not sure about the message that you got from POILoader though. It should run OK without any prompting. |

Right I have finally managed to unblock the sox.exe file and reload it in to the POI loader folder. Uninstalled my first attempt of camera install and gone through the whole prceedure again and this time POI loader installed 17000 approx files and didn't show the previous "unable to convert message" So I presume it is all OK now. Just need to test on the road now. Many thanks to all for their help. |

Yes, test it on the road.
..or in Navigation.. GPS Simulation Mode you can test it in your armchair (as Kremmen mentioned) !!

Ah yes, the blocked from another computer message.
That is usually due to Win7 UAC mode being on. First thing most people do is turn it off as it's a real PITA. _________________ Satnav:

I have had my initial PGPSW cameras put on and they work. Now when I come to put the latest ones on POI loader comes up with a message "There was an unexpected error during the removal of the custom POI file. I have tried several times and even redownloaded the camera files but to no avail. Any ideas what's gone wrong and how to fix it? |
