Hi
I seem to have an intermittent problem with camera alert
I have a Galaxy S3 mounted on the dash with an ignition switched USB charger.
If I boot the hone, all works well, then get out of the car (usb off), come back to it and fire up and the sound has gone, if I pull up the screen the visual alerts are there (though that often causes the app to crash)
Obviously it makes the app untrustworthy, and have to keep rebooting it
Anyone else had an issue like this
Thanks

When you say 'boot the phone', do you really mean that of do you mean restart the CamerAlert app?
Rebooting the phone is a bit of a drastic step to have to take. |

Hi
The phone isn't always on as the car isn't used every day, but from a clean boot everything is fine
The problem is by the time you realise it isn't alerting (ie when you are driving!) it's easier to just hold the power key and hit restart than try to mess around with the phone, which of course would be against the law , and rather than messing about I usually just want the thing working again as fast as possible. Bearing in mind it isn't absolutely consistent, and it's a pain to try test it!!
Oh and I have the app set to auto start when the phone boots!

If I remember correctly, the app shuts down after being stationary for some time. At the time, this was done because there were multiple complaints of high battery use due to the constant GPS access even in the background (it has to so that it works in the background). Does this fits in with your experience?
Perhaps someone who has the definitive answer will either confirm my suspicions, or mildly embarrass me for dishing out duff gen yet again. |

Hi
No the app is working, just no alerts other than on screen, but if you happen to light the screen up as you hit a camera zone (to see if it is working) and get the big 30 graphic, then most of the time it gets stuck on screen, you can't do much with the app, even hitting home still leaves the speed limit alert overlaid then sometimes the app times-out, but this only seems to happen if turn on the screen mid alert!

Sorry if this is wrong, but are you saying that the app stops alerting while your phone is in standby? |

Hi no, nothing to do with being in standby
Sometimes, after the power has been disconnected (ignition off 10 minutes/2 hours/2 days) the sound is gone when you set off again, the app is working, the screen can be opened, the GPS is working, visual camera direction arrows etc are working, but there are no audio alerts at all. |

As an update I've decided to try and sidestep the problem
I've reset the phone and reinstalled (it's only job is this) and I've installed a task automator
This puts the phone in and out of 'car mode' based on USB power on or off, then set Camera alert to exit and launch based on 'car mode'
In theory this should reset the app every time the ignition is turned off. If not (ie the app process actually keeps running in the background) I can root the phone and have it kill the camera alert app on power off.
I'll try and feedback on the success of this
Hopefully it will also help battery life when not in use too
