Are we talking about a dog, or a livestock farmer from central Europe? _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

Think a speed camera got me on the autoroute around Tours.
It was very confusing with speed limits changing every couple of Km between 70, 90, 110 and 130km/h with roadworks thrown in for good measure. I misread a sign which had 3.5t under it so I thought it was just for trucks.
I was doing about 95km/h as I approached the camera with cars right up my stern so assumed it was 110km/h. It was very sunny but I'm pretty sure the camera flashed. All very confusing. Wonder if in due course I'll get a fine? |

No, you are OK as there is no agreement between the French and the UK at the moment. |

That sounds like good news!
Earlier today, I could see a stream of cars and trucks some distance ahead of me, in line astern formation in lane 1. The was nothing in lane 2. A camera flashed one them. Seemed very arbitrary to me.
I would say that the French are very precise and there's no tolerance - once you pass the, say, 90km/h sign, the limit is now 90. There's no grace of a few hundred metres to slow down. You slow down before the sign and enter the zone at 90 or less!
PS. Now in Spain! |

French tolerance is 3kph then 5% ... so you should be fine. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Yes but, unlike the UK, the French 50 kmh limit starts at the town/village sign not 1/2 mile down the road.
That's why the local police etc. lurk just past the sign. |

But that's exactly what they do in UK as well. |

I find that digital traffic usually alerts me to hold ups in a timely fashion and offers me an alternative route. However, it doesn't always take account of the traffic on the alternative route, often reporting clear when it's just as congested as the original route. This, and the fact that I'm frequently routed up green lanes and farmer's tracks if I'm not careful are my two main gripes with my 2599.
By the way, anybody know what 'Less Fuel' does to the routing on the 'Fastest/Shortest, etc' options page? |

It'll calculate the route it thinks is more fuel efficient. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Or faster or shorter?
Just did a long journey, almost all motorway on Monday, M40, 42, 6, 1, 18, 180 at 70 mph most of the time and averaged 57. Fuel in an E-Class worked out at 44mpg, the car is 11 years old.
Certainly a clear motorway offering the ability for steady speed cruising is more economical than a route round the houses. |
