Do not attempt to enter route information or adjust this device while driving etc, etc.
However the device demands that if I want to get rid of that screen hogging popup I have to target the X with very little tolerance or I get the wrong action and have to try again and again.
If thats not a contradiction and poor design then I'm a monkeys uncle.

That is a very valid point! |
I really don't believe it is. The warning suggests you shouldn't adjust your device while driving. There is indeed no need to close the traffic sidebar since you will still get directions with it showing. It's entirely your choice so perfectly consistent with the warning. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I also feel the same way as the OP does.

I tried it but it didn't work.... |

If you clear the traffic warning, how do you know if the traffic has continued or cleared?
If it is the frequent less than 5 minutes then it will either clear itself of increase. If you do delete it you could generate more pop ups. |

Being as the display is landscape I'm happy to leave it in view rather than try and close it after each traffic warning.
We all use these devices differently though.
I don't use mine for navigation but for traffic and cameras so I have the sidebar open all the time anyway and I can see all the 44x44 icons coming up, even with the reduced with. _________________ DashCam:

Found something interesting today which might help with this but need to test more. I normally close traffic alerts by tapping the x but today did it by tapping the three bar icon bottom right then trip data.
Next time a traffic alert came up it stayed for around 10 seconds then reverted to trip data. If that's the way it works consistently it's easier anyway than trying to hit the x on the traffic sidebar with the bonus that traffic alerts disappear by themselves _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way.

However .....
If the object of the exercise is to totally remove the sidebar to get a fullscreen map ...
Interesting that the traffic reverts back though.
Krem's useless fact No 26: The 3 bar icon is often reffered to as the hamburger icon _________________ DashCam:

Agreed it won't help if you want no sidebar but I always run with trip data showing _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I display the traffic all the time so I can spot the spinner to make sure it's still receiving, traffic or not. _________________ DashCam:

Sounds good.
I'll try to remember that next time. |

I thought that was the default setup! |

Late to the party, but I use my sat navs in the most part for traffic, so always want it displayed - I don't use for example Navigon any more because of that!
Full onscreen maps still shows clearly anyway, (a little squashed on a portrait display - but still very clear) - and traffic is always evolving and you wouldn't want (and dont get) constant vocal announcements, only visual
Further it isn't a "pop up" (which would be irritating) but a flexible layout - it can be switched to POIs Up Head, Next Few Turns, etc. _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600

Well I can now confirm, I think, that selecting trip data using the 3bar icon results in the traffic display disappearing after around 10 seconds. If that's what you want do it that way. If you want the sidebar to display permanently then don't _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

If there's a change you get the new info, which then goes away also.
Why that doesn't happen anyway I have no idea but at least there is a way for those that want it to work that way _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

As the OP I feel bad that I haven't checked back on this for months and now am delighted to see sussamb's post regarding how to change the behaviour though I've yet to try it but fingers crossed.
Over the last few months I have experienced inconsistent behaviour with the popup sometimes going of its own accord. This has not been because a delay is no longer present as the increased journey time has not decreased to its pre popup time.
Last weekend when returning from Leicester on the routed A6, A14, M11 I had more odd behaviour. Over a 15 minute while on the A6 the journey time increased by over 30 minutes in several chunks of minutes. Not one of these was accompanied by any traffic popup! At this point we cancelled the route and restarted it. This only took a few moments and now we were back to
pretty much the original arrival time with the same route. Oh well. |
